It’s time to embrace the chunky ankle boot – here are 6 of the best to buy now

It’s all about the chunky ankle boot. Here is why you shouldn’t be afraid of them and where to buy the best on the high-street

Did anyone ever tell you never to judge a book by its cover?

Well, the same goes for chunky boots.

Unless you have been hibernating, I presume most of you will have seen the exponential growth of the trend. 2018 saw the introduction of the now cult-status Doc Marten Jadon boots which seem to have started this new wave of chunky goodness. High-end designers quickly took note, with both Prada and The Row creating their own versions, both of which sold out upon release. Even Rosie-Huntington Whiteley nabbed herself both pairs.

Versatile

I know a chunky boot can look scary. Many of you may have visions of farms and mountains when you see a pair in a shop, but I assure you there is nothing outdoorsy about these incarnations. They are versatile, practical, stylish and most importantly comfortable.

When styled right, they can look sophisticated like a classic flat Chelsea boot but can also look as wild and carefree as you like. Wear under a suit for something a little different, and like all other boots, they look superb underneath skirts, dresses and jeans.

While the high-end versions may be out of our price range, the high-street is awash with some lookalikes that look great but won’t break the bank this January.

If you are still scared of the trend, try a boot a little less imposing like the Vagabond Kenova boot, but if you are in the mood for a little risk-taking, the Zara track sole version is our top pick.

How Instagram is wearing the trend?
