Looking for a new pair of trainers? New Balance dad trainers are becoming more popular by the day – here is how to wear them

For a long time, ‘dad style’ trainers were frowned upon.

They were seen as unworthy of the fashion gaze. The chunky style and the sportswear design were described as ugly.

However, suddenly normcore fashion became part of the mainstream sartorial conversation. Sportswear and trainers started to be worn outside of the sports arena and the latter even became office appropriate.

Now, dad trainers are the hottest piece of fashion collateral you can own. In terms of brands, New Balance is leading the field.

Its 993 running shoes entered Lyst’s ‘hottest products for women’ quarterly report, after being seen on the likes of Rihanna, Kate Middleton, and Kaia Gerber.

Those in the know quickly realised New Balance dad trainers were to be the shoe of the season, and Instagram is now awash with people styling theirs.

It may seem like the dad trainer would be tricky to style, but its versatility is boundless. Wear with a matching tracksuit, bicycle shorts, and an oversized jumper. Or with an on-trend tennis skirt and a crisp white shirt.

And don’t be afraid to pair them with mini and midi summer dresses for a casual daytime look.

How the internet is wearing them
