Olivia Palermo talks exclusively to IMAGE Magazine about dressing for Fashion Week, her style and beauty secrets, and the designers to watch out for this season.
You are always so well groomed. How important is this to you and have you always been this way?
OP I get it from my mother – watching her get ready, how she would get me ready. It is important to feel good, and being groomed plays a role in that.
Do you feel pressure to look picture-perfect 24/7?
OP Not at all. I wear what I love and feel comfortable in.
Your hair is your crowning glory. Are you high or low maintenance when it comes to styling?
OP I wash my hair every morning. Not sure that’s high maintenance – I have always done this. Washing it just keeps my hair fresh and easy to style.
What are your wardrobe essentials?
OP Flats, a lightweight sweater, skinny jeans, and a great pair of sunglasses.
What’s your top tip for dressing for Fashion Week?
OP Have fun, but remember it is Fashion Week, so go prepared to stun!
Can you describe what you wore to your very first fashion show?
OP I think wore Zac Posen – it was a Bambi printed dress.
You frequent all the Fashion Weeks – which is your favourite?
OP London, usually. It is so unique every season.
What advice can you offer for getting red-carpet ready?
OP Keep your hair and make-up clean and simple. You want to look like the most beautiful version of yourself, not unlike yourself.
What’s the most sentimental item of clothing in your closet?
OP My accessories. My mom has given me a few that mean the world to me.
You use your site, oliviapalermo.com, to help promote new designers. What are the hottest names we should know right now?
OP Self Portrait – they have a great aesthetic. Also, Nom De Mode – they make beautiful jackets.
You’re also known for your love of accessories – what is your accessory of choice this season?
OP Westward Leaning sunglasses for sure.
You often mix high street with designer labels. What is the one item in your wardrobe that demands a splurge?
OP A great handbag, and shoes.
You provide so many with stylish inspiration – where do you get yours?
OP My mom and my aunt have always been an inspiration to me. So much grace, style and elegance.
