Stylist Courtney Smith picks the occasionwear to buy now

Have a wedding coming up, or a trip to the races? Stylist Courtney Smith tells us what she has her eye on in occasionwear right now.

Rixo Gemma Dress, €265

Rixo is always a go-to brand for me for any special event. The fit is always really flattering – whatever style you go for as they veer towards those vintage feminine silhouettes. I also love a vibrant print so whether it’s floral or animal print they have something for everyone.

Isabel Marant Dress, €940

Costume boutique always has stunning curated collections and Parisian designer Isabel Marant is the epitome of chic yet sassy. I love the beautiful draping and shapes she creates but it still feels fun with quirky prints.

Simone Rocha Organza Dress, €1,125

Simone Rocha is the Irish designer darling if you are looking for ultra-feminine and flirty. I adore the volume and ruffles in her designs that make a Simone Rocha piece always stand out from the crowd. Havana Boutique are her exclusive stockists in Ireland.

Hebe The Teal & Cream Bianca Blazer, €308

For those who want something a little different, I adore a suit for a special occasion. Hebe make incredible tuxedo and wrap style suits that are quite androgynous but the softer colour tones still make them soft and feminine. I love this mint colour, but with the accents of cream.

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Maemi Dress, €440

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi is my ultimate brand to go to for big events; everything I wear from them makes me feel strong and beautiful. Incredible unique prints, lots of colour and intricate shapes are key for their designs.

ASOS Design Embellished Dress, €93.99

If you are looking for something a little more affordable, the ASOS Edition collection will not disappoint. From soft sorbet tones to vibrant bold hues, midi dresses to full-length gowns, they have everything. I love their choice of fabrics like silks and organzas to really make this collection feel opulent and expensive.

ROTATE Dawn Puff Sleeve Midi Dress, €340

Rotate is definitely the fashion a-listers brand of the moment – it’s a Copenhagen based label all about classic shapes with a modern twist. For me, this simple dress shape is iconic and made all the more interesting with the extravagant statement sleeves.

River Island Animal Print Dress, €65

Another high street option, I love this printed number from River Island for something more affordable. Team with some black strappy shoes and simple accessories to allow the wild print to do all the talking.

The inaugural Longines Irish Champions Weekend Young Designer Award will be shortlisted by a panel of expert judges, headed up by stylist Courtney Smith. The judges will select three finalists and these designers will be asked to create a sample of their design and showcase it at Longines Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh on September 12. The winner will receive a prize to the value of €10,000 which includes a Longines timepiece, a profiling piece with a media partner and a €1,000 cash prize fund. To enter, submit a sketch design that portrays ‘Contemporary Race Day Elegance’ by August 16 here.
