Nike has finally launched its first maternity sportswear collection – here is everything you need to know about the new range

It came as a shock when we discovered at IMAGE that Nike just launched its first maternity range this month.

Then we remembered that while maternity jeans and dresses are aplenty across mainstream stores, activewear for pregnancy was not represented.

Now Nike is trying to change the situation by releasing the (M) range. The collection focuses on fit, support and comfort before and after birth. To create it, Nike used data collected from more than 150,000 body scans of women to determine how the body grows during pregnancy. The team also gathered feedback from 30 female athletes who were either pregnant or postpartum.

Carmen Zolman, Nike’s Senior Design Director for Apparel Innovation, said of the collection: “The more we listened to expecting mothers and postpartum mothers, the more we learned, reworked and innovated through inclusive design,”

“It’s the project of a lifetime to work in lockstep with all kinds of mothers to bring to life a capsule that truly supports women’s relationship with sport during such a transformative time in their lives.”

Essentials

The range contains four essential pieces – a swoosh bra, tank top, pullover and Nike One tight.

Nike (M) Swoosh bra, €44.99

Nike’s first-ever sports bra for pregnancy and nursing offers medium support. Discreet layers and a special moisture-management fabric make breaks for nursing or pumping that little bit easier. And breasts change size, a slider on the band lets you alter the fit. It comes in three colours.

Nike (M) Women’s Tank, €34.99

A longer cut means this tank provides full coverage and comfort for your baby bump, while the scoop neckline and 4-way stretch pull down for stress-free access. Plus, it is made from at least 75% recycled polyester fibres.

Nike One (M) leggings, €59.99

Soft and breathable, these tights are designed with a zonal fabric that adapts and grows as your body changes. A flexible waistband lets you choose between full-bump cover and support, or a more relaxed, fold-down style.

Nike (M) Women’s pullover, €79.99

Made for nursing on the go, this pullover is made with a reversible design. Wear forwards with the split hem for discreet yet cosy nursing, or backward when it’s time to move.
