Ask the experts: what can I do to make my hair last all day?

Ask the experts: what can I do to make my hair last all day?

Peter Mark’s longest-serving staff answer the big the questions: how can I make my hair last all day?

Spent an hour curling your hair only for it to lie flat half an hour later? Blowdried your hair precisely and neatly into poker-straight perfection only for humidity to destroy it? Peter Marks’ longest-serving staff are here to put your hair troubles to rest, for once and for all. Here they answer one of life’s big (hair) questions: how can I make my style last all day?

Peter Mark’s Long Service Awards recognised 75 employees who have worked at Peter Mark for 10 years or more. Collectively those 75 people honoured today have over 1,400 years of experience in the hairdressing industry ranging from stylists to support staff.

Patricia Mulcahy, Peter Mark Wilton, Cork, 40 years of service, joined in 1979

There are a couple of ways to make your style last longer. Firstly if styling at home, after you have blowdried it into shape use the L’Oreal Steampod, €199 to finish off your look. As the Steampod uses water to smooth and straighten your hair, it makes your hair humidity and moisture-resistant: ideal for Irish hair and weather! If you’re looking to make your style last after a salon blowdry, you can extend the life of your hair by using a professional dry shampoo such as REDKEN Pillow Proof Two Day Extender, €20 or the REDKEN Powder Grip, €19.50. If you have finer hair or a scalp that is sensitive to products, I recommend using the NIOXIN Scalp Refresh range which will help your hair feel great into the second and third day.

Kérastase Densimorphose Mousse, €25

Rosemary Reilly, Peter Mark Newry, 35 years of service, joined in 1984

For a salon blowdry, this is up to your stylist to choose the correct products for your desired style, from start to finish. A suitable shampoo and the right styling products can all aid in maintaining your style for the day ahead For a curly blowdry you can use products such as REDKEN Pillow Proof, €21.Kérastase Densimorphose Mousse, €25 is a lightweight formula that won’t weigh the hair down.

NIOXIN Instant Fullness, €19.90

Marcus Daly, Peter Mark Dundrum Main Street, 20 years of service, joined in 1998

To help make your style last, I would recommend using the correct shampoo and conditioner for the finished look. Never apply conditioner to the root area as this can leave it feeling flat. Always use the correct styling product to help enhance the desired look. Another top tip is dry shampoo which will absorb your natural oils and give you amazing day hair all day long. With a product like NIOXIN Instant Fullness, €19.90, not only do you get instant volume but it’s also designed to refresh your scalp, prolonging your hair inbetween shampoos and leaving it feeling fresh and clean.
