Create a space they’ll love to play in with these 10 items to brighten up your kids’ room

Make your child’s bedroom a place they’ll be excited to spend time in with one of these ten cheerful items, from storage to textiles.

We’re all going to be spending more time at home than usual this winter, and that includes our kids. While they may have spent the summer months enjoying the garden or the local park as much as possible, a winter lockdown won’t afford the same opportunities with colder, wetter days.

That’s why it could be nice to get something to brighten up their bedroom, to make it feel more inviting to spend time there. All members of the family benefit from having their own space to retreat to, and children are no different. Here are ten items that will make their room feel like a special space to play.

Cat Night light, €38, Barn

This cute cat will add a soft glow to your child’s bedroom at night, while being a fun addition to their room during the day.

Available from Irish children’s store Barn, It doesn’t run on batteries, instead coming with a recharging plug, and it’s made from silicone, which is soft to the touch, and durable.

Rudai Olla Rainbow Wall Hanging, €28, Mimi+Martha

brighten up your kids' bedroom

Handmade in Galway by Rudai? Olla, this gorgeous woollen wall hanging is guaranteed to add a pop of cheerful colour to your child’s wall.

Hay colour crate, from around €7, Maven

brighten up your kids' bedroom

Storage is a key part of any kids’ room, especially for toys, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be colourful.

These plastic crates from Belfast store, Maven, come in 14 colours, so you can create a whole rainbow on a shelf. As they’re not solid, it’s also easier to find things, as you can see into the boxes.

Ferm Living Leopard Safari Tufted Rug, €221, Amara

brighten up your kids' bedroom

Cool enough to be used as a wall hanging, this leopard rug is made from 100 per cent wool, so is also durable enough to go on the floor.

Fun without being babyish, this is a rug that can take pride of place in their room for years to come.

Nöjsam baskets, €7, Ikea

brighten up your kids' bedroom

Another colourful storage solution, these soft baskets from Ikea are made from recycled plastic bottles, so they’re an environmentally-conscious option.

I need more Space Illustration with Frame, €54, April and the Bear

brighten up your kids' bedroom

Fun prints are a great way to add life to a child’s room, and this one from Rathmines-based April and the Bear is ideal. In a large size with a pastel palette, its space theme will also appeal to any budding astronauts.
