Transitional style tips from the streets of New York

Transitional style tips from the streets of New York

You’re going to read quite a bit about transitional style here on IMAGE.ie over the next few weeks because, frankly, it’s tricky. Today several of the IMAGE staffers are wearing fresh white trainers and light coloured blazers or shirts. They look so spring-like. I’m wearing black boots on the other hand and I feel the time is almost over (assuming we don’t get a late snowfall as we did last year) when I can wear them and not feel a little bit dowdy and out of season. I think tomorrow will either be a white trainers or white boots day for me.

There are a few key outfit upgrades you can make now that will give your look the uplift it needs as you navigate the early days of spring, but which won’t leave you feeling cold and miserable between now and May. They are…

Embrace colour

You don’t have to forgo wearing a coat (in fact you shouldn’t because you’ll freeze) but do swap traditional black or navy outerwear for a vibrant coloured coat instead.

Lighten up your neutrals

If you prefer to avoid colour and like to stick to neutrals, lighten up those layers by avoiding shades of grey and black, and mixing up shades of biscuit and beige instead.

Introduce the colour violet

It’s one of spring/summer’s key shades and so will make your wardrobe look instantly more of the moment.

Swap blue jeans for white

Instantly rejuvenating, white jeans will freshen up your look; and yes you can wear white boots with white jeans.
