Editor-in-chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful ‘racially profiled’ at work

Editor-in-chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful ‘racially profiled’ at work

Enninful said that ‘change needs to happen now’ in relation to workplace profiling

The Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue has alleged that he was racially profiled at his workplace this week.

Edward Enninful, who is the first Black male editor of the title, described being told by a member of the building’s security to ‘use the loading bay’, clearly unaware of Enninful’s position at British Vogue.

Enninful posted about the event on his social media, saying that “change needs to happen now” in relation to racism in the workplace.

In an Instagram post following the incident, Enninful wrote: “It just goes to show that sometimes it doesn’t matter what you’ve achieved in the course of your life: the first thing that some people will judge you on is the colour of your skin.”

Earlier this month, Enninful was presented with the award for Editor of the Year at the PPA Consumer Awards, and drew attention to the lack of diversity in previous nominees. He said: “It would be disingenuous of me not to point out that I am the first black person to ever win this award – the first black person in 40 years.

“Who are we hiring? Who are we nurturing? Who are we promoting? How do our office environments treat people? Who is allowed to get to the top?”

It is understood that the security guard in question, who works for a third party contractor, was dismissed from the site immediately and is under investigation from his employer.
