Is facial massage the secret to plump skin? Well, it works for Meghan Markle...

Learning to massage  your face might just be the difference between good skin and lifted, plump, great skin. Here are some top tips for facial sculpting from the inside out.

Your face has muscles as well as skin, right? So doesn't it make sense that there might be tension there, like there is in practically every other muscle in your body? Now that we think of it... Yes.

So, working your face out and stretching it the way you do the rest of your body makes sense.

Celebrity facial sculptor and aesthetician, Nichola Joss, certainly feels that way and next month she'll be at Image Beauty Festival showing you exactly how it works (tickets €45).

Nichola's clients include Meghan Markle who was quotes as saying: "I do facial exercises taught to me by one of my favorite aestheticians, Nichola Joss, who basically has you sculpt your face from the inside out. I swear it works, as silly as you may feel. On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are way more sculpted."

Ahead of Nichola appearance in Dublin, here are some techniques you can try at home.

Facial sculpting

First thing, when you want to massage your face, you need something to give some slip.

Get yourself a nice facial oil - my preference is Clarins Blue Orchid Oil or else Trilogy Rosehip Oil, both are incredibly good.

Clarins Blue Orchid Oil, €42 and Trilogy Rosehip Oil, €22.95

Techniques to try at home

Scissors on the forehead
Start by interlacing your fingertips facing your face. Place them gently onto your forehead, and move them back and forward in a scissoring motion making sure to cover your whole forehead side to side. Keep the pressure the same but not overly firm. Repeat for 15 seconds.

Eye circles
Using only a small amount of pressure, place your fingertips at the sides of your eyes and make repeated circles around the eye socket. Work up over the eyebrows, down the center of the nose, under the eyes, and back to the starting position. Repeat for 15 seconds.

Cheekbone pull
Starting with your thumbs on your knuckle on your thumb tucked under your cheekbone at the corners of your nose, draw them along the underside of your cheekbone, moving back towards your ears, focusing on lifting up and out. Repeat for 15 seconds.

Jazz hands for the face, basically. Finish your facial sculpting with 60 seconds spent tapping your fingertips quick as you can across your entire face.
