Gaza airstrike
Ten civilians and a leading Islamic Jihad commander are among 23 people killed by a series of pre-dawn airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. Israeli military said it targeted the commander of Islamic Jihad’s rocket squad in an attack on a building in the southern Gaza Strip. They said Ali Ghali was hiding in an apartment and that two other militants from the group were killed alongside him iat a Qatari-built residential complex in Khan Younis.
Supermarket windfall
Labour’s finance spokesperson Ged Nash has said that supermarkets should be treated like energy companies and subject to a windfall tax if they are found to be profiteering, and that the government is “flailing” in its efforts to force supermarkets to cut prices. This comes after supermarket chains reduced prices on their own brand bread and dairy products.
Shein opens Dublin hub
Shein has opened a major regional hub in Dublin, where it aims to add 30 new jobs this year. The city centre office will be the firm’s Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters and host Shein’s strategic IT hub for the region. It plans to fill roles in data analytics, security engineering, finance management and legal, as well as expanding its graduate programme.
Stardust inquest
A brother of one of the 48 victims of the Stardust nightclub fire — which took place in the early hours of February 14th, 1981 — has told the Coroner’s Court that the grief of losing a loved one was “unbearable”, while being told what that person’s life was worth and how to avoid getting involved in a legal system that excluded most working class people added “insult to injury”.
Trump says sexual assault case was ‘fake’
Donald Trump repeated his claims the 2020 election was rigged and claimed a court ruling of sexual assault against him was “fake”. CNN moderator Kaitlan Collins asked if he regretted his actions on January 6 2021, with the former president praising the size of the crowd he spoke to that day before some began marching on the Capitol. “They were there proud. They were there with love in their heart. That was unbelievable and it was a beautiful day,” he said.
