Keep spotting numerical sequences? According to the internet, these ‘angel numbers’ could have a deeper meaning

Since the pandemic heralded in a renewed interest in magic and mysticism, angel numbers seem to be everywhere — but what do they mean?

Over the course of the last few years, it seems like there’s been something of a gravitational pull towards the world of spirituality. From an uptick in the sale of crystals and tarot cards to a revived interest in astrology, manifesting and chakra cleansing, the online world appears to be looking to the universe for guidance more than ever.

An unsurprising outcome of the disillusion brought on by the pandemic, looking to magic and mysticism for a greater meaning is only natural. While sceptics may write it off as hippy mumbo-jumbo, or a convoluted trend bought into by Millennials and Gen-Z, interest in angel numbers seems to only be growing in popularity.

We’ve all got our own set of superstitions, whether it’s waving at a lone magpie, avoiding the cracks in the pavement or touching wood to make sure you don’t jinx yourself. Come on, let’s be honest here, we’ve all made an 11:11 wish at some point or another.

The serendipitous appearance of so-called angel numbers appeals to that search for greater meaning, and the vague longing for cosmic intervention. Providing a source of comfort to those who interpret them as a message from a higher power, and a bit of escapist fun for those looking for a nudge in the right direction, angel numbers hint at the existence of something more.

So, what exactly are angel numbers?

If you find yourself spotting the same combination of numbers again and again, it might just be an astrological phenomenon known as angel numbers. Thought of as a form of otherworldly guidance steering you in the right direction or affirming your decision-making, these numerological patterns can be found anywhere and everywhere.

On the clock, at the end of a receipt or on the Instagram explore page, these digits are said to each represent a unique message and can be interpreted differently based on your own intuition. Whether it be at a turning point in your life or a regular old Monday afternoon, it’s not hurting anyone to take these angel numbers as a little nod from the universe.

More of a cosmic wink that will help you reach your own natural conclusions than out-and-out advice on what to do next, angel numbers can inspire something different in all those who choose to see them as something more than plain old digits.

So, what does each sequence represent?

While each singular digit from 1-9 is said to hold its own significance, angel numbers are most commonly recognised where they appear in repetitive sequences of three or four.

Open to varying interpretations, here’s a little crash course in what each of these numerical patterns is thought to represent…

111 is linked to manifestation, encouraging a more impassioned sense of self-belief and a trust in your own ability to make a dream become a reality.

222 is a sign to trust your gut and feel assured in the knowledge that you’re on the right path.

333 is supposed to prompt a rebalancing of mind, body and spirit.

444 is a reminder that you’re being protected, and to allow yourself the luxury of a calming deep breath.

555 signals a forthcoming change in your life, and a nudge to trust the process.

666, while often associated with the underworld, this angel number encourages self-reflection and a reframing of your mindset

777 is said to be a sign to feel the fear and do it anyway.

888 is linked to abundance and harmony.

999 refers to reaching an end goal, feeling fulfilled, and refocusing your energies.

At the end of the day, it’s always nice to believe that there’s something greater than just ourselves helping us along the way.
