Tara Kumar: My biggest beauty lessons

How has your skincare regime changed over the years? What do you buy again and again and what beauty ideas have you ditched? Tara Kumar, DJ and presenter, reflects on her beauty routine.

My mother never wore make-up her whole life, so she taught me to embrace my natural look. Being able to mix her natural way of beauty with playing with make-up as I got older has been a really beautiful balance.

The products I always have in my bathroom are Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Superfusion Facial Oil and Magic Cream, Dabur Amla Hair Oil, The Body Shop Olive Body Butter, and a nice healthy supply of sheet masks.

I love how naturally dark my hair is, and my mole, aka beauty spot, above my lip.

I definitely know what products work better for me now compared to a few years ago. I didn’t get into beauty until I was older, so I am still learning so much.

The “beauty” of beauty these days is there are so many places people can learn; it’s so much more accessible to find the tools and figure out what works best for you.

I’ve learned that brows are extremely important so figure out what style and shape complements your face the best.

Growing up, everyone at school that wore make-up was my beauty icon. I was so jealous they were allowed to wear it!

First thing in the morning, I drink a pint of warm water with lemon juice then cleanse my skin.

In the shower before bed, I have a multi-step skincare routine, but if I am not showering and am tired, then I will do a routine that is as quick as possible.

My everyday make-up starts with a medium coverage foundation – at the moment, I am using Sculpted by Aimee Connolly. Then I do a Charlotte Tilbury powder bronzer, fill in my brows, add lots of blush, MACStack mascara, Charlotte Tilbury Foxy Brown lip pencil and Pillow Talk lipstick. Sometimes I use a setting powder and Charlotte Tilbury setting spray to make sure it doesn’t melt off.

I love wearing my hair pulled back, so when I am home, I wear it down to give my scalp a break as much as I can. I use hair oils when I remember to and try to wash it only twice a week. I don’t use much heat on it unless absolutely necessary!

I love baths I wish I had one!

I felt beautiful at All Together Now festival over the summer. I had lots of fun, drank lots of water, and did my best to take care of my face over the weekend.

Some of my favourite scents are lavender incense and jasmine candles. Right now, I adore The Body Shop Wild Jasmine perfume.

When I’m DJing, I do my normal daily look but add some eyeliner and smudge it out a bit. I also add a bit of extra blush or a dark pinky shadow to my eyelids.
