Beauty editor, skincare specialist and TikTok content creator, Simone Gannon, aka @simonescribes, on her holy grail sheet mask, the greatest mascara she’s ever used and her favourite cleansing oil (so good it makes her look forward to her evening cleanse).
Biossance Squalane + Antioxidant Cleansing Oil, €25
I started using Biossance products about two years ago and quickly fell in love with several of them, including this divine cleansing oil. It’s light but intensely hydrating in a way that so many cleansing oils are not. I look forward to my evening cleanse because of it.
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum, €75
I’m a longtime devotee of Advanced Night Repair and will sing its praises to anyone if given the opportunity. There’s nothing quite like it on the market. It repairs and hydrates, adds plumpness and glow, and generally makes your skin look and feel incredible. I use it morning and evening and often mix a pump with my foundation for extra luminosity.
Avene Thermal Spring Water, €15.50
If there’s one thing I love when it comes to skincare, it’s a mist. Specifically, this one from Avene. It’s brilliant for refreshing, adding moisture, soothing and calming. I use it in the morning before cleansing, after cleansing and before serums, before moisturiser, and repeatedly throughout the day to refresh my skin (even over makeup).
My skin is sensitive, so I’m careful when using actives in my skincare routine, especially exfoliants. I love this toner from Medik8 because it’s incredibly gentle but delivers excellent glowy results. I use it 2-3 times a week.
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF50, €25
Korean skincare, in general, is phenomenal, and I’ve fallen completely in love with Beauty of Joseon in the last year. Their rice and probiotics sunscreen is one of the best I’ve ever used. It’s light, hydrating, leaves no trace and works exceptionally well under makeup. A brilliant option for sensitive or reactive skin, too.
Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Facial Barrier Masks, €9
Because my job involves trying new products, my skin can sometimes get slightly annoyed. When this happens, I take 15 minutes to use a Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Sheet Mask. It never fails to bring down redness, hydrate and calm my skin instantly. I recommend these masks (and the entire Ceramidin range) to everyone.
Nars Light Reflecting Foundation, €48
Light, glowy, medium coverage foundation is my thing, and this one from Nars ticks all the boxes. I love how smooth it applies, the finish, and how long it lasts. The only thing I don’t love is the constantly exploding lid.
Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Liquid Concealer, €27.12
I’m a concealer addict and have tried and binned more formulas than I’d like to admit. I want full coverage that looks like skin, doesn’t require constant reapplication, stays in place all day, and makes my under-eye area look fresh. And Huda Beauty #FauxFilter delivers on all counts.
L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara, €16.99
L’Oreal Lash Paradise is one of the greatest mascaras of all time. I’ve never been without a tube (or several) since it launched six years ago. It thickens, dramatically darkens, lengthens and adds major volume without clumpiness or flaking. It’s affordable, too. Win, win.
Rare Beauty Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer, €29
I have a lot of love for Rare Beauty products in general, but this bronzing stick is my absolute favourite. It’s creamy without being greasy, blends like a dream, and I like to use it as eyeshadow when I’m in a hurry.
Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand in Pinkgasm, €36
Cream blushes are my go-to, as I like the freshness they add to the skin (especially now that I’m rapidly approaching 40!). Although I have tried many over the years, none are as beautiful (or as easy to use) as Charlotte Tilbury’s Beauty Light Wand in Pinkgasm. I’m never without it.
Sculpted by Aimee Lip Duos, €19
These double-ended lipstick/lip liner duos from Sculpted by Aimee are genius, and I always have at least one in my handbag. They’re creamy, long-lasting, and help me create a perfectly matched lip on the go. My current favourites are Double Trouble, a deep, blue-toned red, and Pink Pair, a gorgeous nude-pink shade.
Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair Texturising Hairspray, €27.50
I use texture spray in my hair daily for movement, lift and volume, and I’ve never come across anything as good as Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair. It’s easy to use, light, doesn’t weigh down the hair or add any crunchiness, and smells delicious. An all-around winner.
Ren AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum, €41.80
One of my favourite discoveries in the last few months is this gorgeous body serum from Ren Skincare. I slather it on after a shower, and it instantly hydrates and smoothes without irritation. My skin always feels amazing after using it.
Spotlight Oral Care Teeth Whitening Powder Diamond PAP+, €29.95
I love whitening my teeth, but I don’t always have the time or the energy to do it. This whitening powder from Spotlight Oral Care is genius and has completely changed how I whiten my teeth. The results are fantastic, too.
