MAC’s best-selling Ruby Woo lipstick now comes in more finishes

by Holly O'Neill
06th Oct 2021

Whether you are a devoted diehard red lipstick wearer or you just dip your toe for a special occasion, MAC Ruby Woo lipstick is the red that woos all.

It is the most iconic of bold, pillarbox red lipsticks, a mega-matte, with four Ruby Woo lipsticks being sold every minute around the world. It works on every skin tone but is particularly great on very pale or very dark skin and its hint of blue makes everyone’s teeth American-TV-presenter gleaming white.

Ruby Woo is the go-to red lipstick of some of today’s most notable red lipstick wearers – think Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, Tracee Ellis Ross, Dita Von Teese – and Rihanna loves it so much, she had her own special version made in her MAC collaboration called Riri Woo. Born in 1999, it is, without doubt, the most iconic and universally beloved of red lipsticks. I once asked the IMAGE office for their favourite red lipsticks and had to venture outside of our four walls for answers when the overwhelming majority of responses all came back with Ruby Woo.

So it is really stop-the-press breaking beauty news that MAC’s Ruby Woo is about to come in three new finishes and textures. The new collection – Ruby’s Crew – has been dressed in new, limited-edition art deco packaging and you can still buy Ruby Woo in her original Retro Matte formula. You can also now find the iconic red in MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula in Ruby Phew!, as a long-wearing liquid matte that doesn’t budge.

There’s now also a Powder Kiss Lipstick, called Ruby New, for a diffused, soft-focus look that’s softer but with all the same colour power, that feels completely weightless on. Finally, there’s a Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour in Ruby Boo, with a whipped mousse texture, moisturising feel and a soft matte stain finish.
