Creative Director’s Notes
The Price Of Beauty
“We wanted Kate to look strong, on a pedestal, in a power suit – she is here to be taken seriously.” – Lawson Mpame and Itchey Drew
Where do you see or find beauty in your life?
I see beauty all around me, especially in nature. It’s always different but beautiful in its own way.
What does the word “beauty” mean to you?
Beauty takes on so many forms. It’s things that touches your heart and you admire.
What has been your personal experience with beauty?
My personal experience with beauty is managing societies perception of beauty and leading the way that different is beautiful.
Did anything change about your approach to beauty while you were on this project?
I believe beauty comes is different shapes, sizes and colour. It comes from within and the project reinforced this.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
My favourite thing about myself is the ability to accept people for who they are and treating everyone equally.
Is there anything you wish you could tell your younger self?
To believe in yourself and have courage.
What’s the one thing you find very beautiful or attractive in others?
I find the most attractive thing is kindness as it shows in your eyes, in your smile, on your face and in your actions.
What would you consider to be your superpower?
My superpower is belief in myself – learn to love and accept yourself. I’m good at meeting and greeting people, lifting the atmosphere of a packed room of people, having the ability to laugh at myself and not taking life too seriously.
