These polka dot shoes got me out of bed this morning

Dating all the way back to the 1920s and the iconic character of Minnie Mouse, polka dots have been a staple print in fashion for decades. They’re a timeless classic that reappear over and over because of their versatility and wearability, and this coming season is no different. Ashley Williams pairs a tiered day-dress in traditional polka-dot print with cool-girl flat sliders, while at Osman, below, polka dots are given a size and colour update for an injection of modernity for the new season.

The polka dot isn’t just confined to funky outerwear or smart occasionwear, and the trick to infcluding this classic trend into your everyday ‘drobe is right under your nose (or your foot, to be exact). Stylish footwear is a straightforward, fool-proof way of getting in on a trend, without going full head-to-toe. It was the iconic Dior slingback, previewed by UK blogger Laura Wills, below, that ignited a new-found appreciation and love for dots earlier this year. And as we know, once a trend takes hold on Instagram, it isn’t long before it trickles down from luxury boutiques to the high street.

But you don’t need to reach as high end as Dior for a taste of polka dot luxury: look to old-school all-star Converse, below, for comfort and style, and let these Alaia sandals serve up sophistication from dinner party to late-night dance floor. Whether you’re channelling sexy or commanding, feminine or sporty, scroll below to shop ten perfectly spotty styles. And in the words of Marc Jacobs, “There is never a wrong time for a polka dot.”
