Did you know that sweatshirts have gone from grunge to glam?

Did you know that sweatshirts have gone from grunge to glam?

They used to be classed as strictly streetwear, but now sweatshirts are as often worn to the office as they are in the park. This time of year, they really come into their own though, offering a softer, less formal option for workwear, which feels just right for spring. Try swapping your button-front shirt for a smart sweatshirt. Under a blazer it will look cool but chic. Elevated sweatshirts can also serve as an understated option for party wear. Try pairing one with a silk skirt or leather pants and heels.

I love this mix of tangerine and cobalt blue. The pretty floral print of this Zara sweatshirt contrasts nicely with the slightly oversized shape. Pairing it with red trousers creates a really strong look that could take you anywhere.

If you’re worried that a sweatshirt may look too sloppy, then choose a piece with clever detailing like this drawstring top from Bimba & Lola. It creates a flattering shape that draws the eye toward the centre of the body. I love the nautical stripes too; they always look chic.

A couple of frills add femininity to this piece, as does this shade of baby blue. This item would add a lovely nonchalance to a pretty pleated skirt.

Sweatshirt with flounces, €13.49 (reduced from €17.99) at H&M

This is such an elegant look from Mango. Neutrals are layered beautifully, while the casual vibe of the sweatshirt is balanced beautifully by smart palazzo pants and a striped shirt. The embellished detailing adds a luxe point of difference, again contrasting nicely with the stereotypically grungy image of a sweatshirt.
