The trick to nailing notice-me neons (and to keeping your look firmly rooted in this decade) is to turn down the colour dial with?an unassuming neutral. Chalky whites and anthracite grey are great for adding freshness and modernity to blast-from-the-past neons. To choose the right shade for you, simply take your usual colour palette and amplify it. So if navy suits your skin tone, try electric blue instead, and if peachy hues hit the mark, try experimenting with tangerine. Given that wearing neons is the fashion equivalent of texting in bold caps, it’s best to keep your silhouette streamlined and unfussy and opt?for classic pieces that negate any unwanted 80s references; for instance, a traditional trench coat, a timeless satchel or a demure shift dress.
At Moschino, shades of putty and taupe tempered bursts of citrus shades, while traditionally feminine silhouettes (belted waists, pencil skirts and hourglass shapes) added a conservative edge,?balancing the offbeat vibe of the luminous neons.
At Christopher Kane, acid brights were mixed with?uncompromising black for a bold statement. The pieces were utterly unfussy and sometimes austere, with their jagged and angular cutaways,?putting a firm lid on any fizzy or pop culture connotations.
