Find your perfect winter coat at F&F

We forget that a coat is probably the most important element of our autumn/winter wardrobes, both practically and sartorially. It’s necessary to shield us from the dreary Irish weather of course, but it’s the first thing others see us wearing at the beginning and end of every day. One great coat can solve so many of your everyday style dilemmas because it elevates the simplest of outfits to standout, and can conceal a multitude… you know those days when nothing you try on feels quite right, until you throw on a fabulous covercoat and the entire outfit just falls into place?

For me, one coat is never enough. I want colours, textures and options from my outerwear as well as that surefire wear-anywhere neutral coat that every woman needs. That’s why F&F at Tesco is such a great place to shop for outerwear. The variety of styles and accessibility of price means that I can comfortably pick up two or three items (one classic and a couple that are more trend driven) without cleaning out my bank account. For this season I’ve got my eye on some stunning F&F coats. Here’s my essential edit.

A camel coat is an absolute wardrobe staple. It’s chic and understated but because it’s not black or navy, it will add a point of difference to your look. I love the streamlined crombie style of this piece. It will create a beautifully tailored silhouette, which will work over office attire as easily as it will with jeans at weekends.

Tartans, checks and plaids are a key trend for this season, so this coat is a must have. I’m a fan of checks all year round, however, so I’ll happily wear this coat next year and well beyond. I find a single-breasted fit very flattering and I love the subtle single button detailing.

It’s so important to introduce texture to your autumn/winter wardrobe, and this gorgeous boucle overcoat does just that. It’s beautifully tactile and will add depth to denim and other utilitarian fabrics. Rust is also this season’s key colour, so if you want to nod to what’s been happening on the catwalks, this is the coat for you.

The trench coat is a classic for a reason but this iteration hits the current check trend too. The belt makes it wearable and the warm rust thread running through the monochrome pattern elevates it to a piece that will stand out and last the test of time.
