Duck-egg blue, mint and green are the unexpected ‘It’ colours for now and next season

Here’s the thing: we know florals for spring aren’t groundbreaking, but mint, turquoise and duck-egg blue for winter are. Our wardrobe instinct at this time of year is to bundle away the bright and settle into the dark and muted “autumnal” tones. A few years ago, the idea of soft mint and delicate duck-egg blue for winter might have caused a toothache. But they are the surprising – yet welcomed – shades for AW18 that offer a glimpse of brighter things to come for SS19. It was the catwalk shows of Delpozo, Molly Goddard and Sies Marjan that signalled this bright revival. On a puffer jacket, it’s unexpected; on a hat, it’s a statement, on over-the-knee boots; it’s attention-grabbing.

How do you incorporate these shades into your autumn wardrobe right now? Swap out a silver sequin skirt instead for a shiny mint-coloured one, like this one below, from Topshop, and pair it with a rich burgundy cashmere sweater. An infusion of traditional winter colours will defuse this light-refracting skirt. Try it with accessories: wear delicate aqua on your neck, and why not try a pair of funky duck-egg blue socks on for size too? There is a spectrum of shades to enjoy, so why settle for black when you can wear light and airy blues and greens instead? Shop twelve essentials in these sweet and tantalising shades below.
