9 knitted sweater vests that Harry Styles would be proud of

9 knitted sweater vests that Harry Styles would be proud of

The nerdiest item at the back of your wardrobe is due a comeback — knitted vests are on the up

If it’s good enough for style icon Harry Styles, it’s good enough for me. And by it, I mean a knitted sweater vest.

Knitted vests, as practical for these transitional months as they may be, have long been shunned by the style community as geeky and Granny-ish. Luckily though, geeky and Granny-ish is pretty much our 2020 aesthetic.

Big hitters like Gucci and Prada have been tapping into the preppy chic look in a big way as of late, with patterned tights, floral shirts and long skirts making up their uniforms, and topped off with, you guessed it, sleeveless knitwear. The humble sweater vest has been spotted on all our favourite influencers, as well as showing off its androgynous prowess on the likes of Harry Styles and Timotheé Chalamet.

When you banish the stereotype from your mind, the knitted vest is actually the ideal piece to have in your wardrobe at this time of year. It’s the perfect item to keep warm without being sweltering, and can be worn over everything from a pretty printed shirt to a plain tee. I indulged in the trend before Christmas with an alpaca-wool blend fuschia pink iteration from H&M (now sadly sold out) and it’s become one of the hardest working pieces in my wardrobe since then.

Interested in hitting the proverbial books? Embrace your nerdy side with these pieces.
