Derrick Carberry’s Six Steps To Making Your Wedding Make-Up Last The Whole Day (And Night)

Making the marriage go the distance is up to you, but make-up artist Derrick Carberry has six expert steps for ensuring that at least your wedding make-up lasts until the honeymoon suite.

PREP

Before make-up application, prep skin by cleansing, toning and using a moisturiser suitable for your skin type. I love Elemis Hydra-Boost Sensitive Day Cream, €50. Exfoliation is also key to prepping skin – the smoother the surface, the more even make-up can be applied and, therefore, the longer it lasts.

PRIME

Next, apply primer to ll in any creases and pores so that foundation will go on smoothly. One of my favourites is MAC Prep + Prime, €27, which is now available in a new formula infused with antioxidants for advanced protection. Primer “seals in” moisturiser and provides a smooth, even surface for make-up. It also keeps make- up from being absorbed, giving it greater staying power.

BUFF

To ensure make -up lasts all day, you don’t need to mask the entire skin with a full-coverage foundation. Stick with your regular foundation and bu an even layer across the skin with your foundation brush. Use a yellow undertone and match as close to the colour of your skin as possible. Choose a concealer that provides ample coverage and a natural-looking finish, as well as longevity.

BUILD

Building up products in light layers with a natural hair brush will make it last way longer than applying one heavy layer, and it always looks more natural too.

DON’T . . . dramatically change your look on the big day. You just want to look like a radiant, more polished version of yourself.

SET

Seal make-up with powder to help it stay put. Use a compact pressed powder to finish and set your foundation. is will help keep base on all day and night.

REMEMBER

We’re all guilty of touching our faces without realising, and when hugging guests, be aware that rubbing your face against well-wishers will increase the chances of your make-up coming off.
