Earlier this month, the folks at Pornhub Insights set about analysing Irish users’ habits and preferences, which culminated in a definitive list of Ireland’s Favourite Porn Searches in the year of 2022 — and the information gleaned about Ireland’s most searched porn categories is quite compelling indeed.

For those who may not know, Ireland’s population is equivalent to 0.06% of the total world population, which just hit 8 billion earlier this week, a mere 12 years since it passed 7 billion. When rounded up by population density, Ireland ranks 124th across the globe, which might just put the fact that our 5 million strong population ranks 42nd for traffic to Pornhub into perspective.

The findings also showed that the average Irish Pornhub visitor spends approximately 9 minutes and 33 seconds on the site, which just so happens to be 20 seconds less than the worldwide average. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

In a hugely patriotic turn of events, the country’s most popular overarching search term is, in fact, ‘Irish’. Pornhub have said that this is a common trend among countries whose insights they’ve studied, but we firmly believe that nowhere could be quite as nationalistic as us here on the Emerald Isle. In comparison to worldwide searches, Irish users clicked on the ‘British’ category a whopping 265% more times than the rest of planet Earth. We can only imagine what Michael Collins would make of that. Clicks for ‘mature’ porn were 72% more popular here in Ireland than anywhere else, and searches for ‘blonde’ were 54% higher on Irish soil.

Since this clearly wasn’t as thorough an inspection as they had intended, Pornhub analysts turned their attention towards providing a county by county breakdown of Ireland’s porn habits for us to ponder upon. Clarifying that these are not the most searched for terms, but rather the terms that are more likely to be searched in each region when compared to the rest of Ireland, the findings really do paint quite the picture of modern Ireland.

When Mundy and Ed Sheeran released their respective iterations of Galway Girl, who would have thought that in 2022 it would be revealed that the city’s most popular Pornhub search term would be ‘redhead’? Something about that just feels right. Meanwhile in Limerick, ‘big tits’ reign supreme, which also just seems fitting.

However, while we would never hope to kink shame anyone, let alone an entire county, Roscommon’s result of ‘granny’ certainly lends itself to a bit of well warranted eyebrow raising.
