Get your dream Irish road trip up and running this summer with this innovative Irish brand

It’s faster, better and easier to travel around Ireland by car thanks to innovative car insurance agency GetSetGo.

Whether you’re thinking of taking a road trip or looking to get your teenagers out of the house, finding, renewing and paying for car insurance has just gotten easier thanks to GetSetGo. Recently relaunched, the fully online platform allows drivers aged from 17 to 75 to get quotes, policies and renewals at the touch of a few keys, it’s making it easier to get out and enjoy an epic Irish road trip this summer.

GetSetGo will cover your journeys around Ireland, Northern Ireland, the UK and Europe, as well as Premier Plus cover that includes 24/7 roadside assistance, overnight accommodation and puncture repair, of course, but it wants to go the extra mile for its customers, introducing a unique rewards program using its own patented technology. “What distinguishes GetSetGo from its counterparts is its unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction through innovation. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and a customer-centric approach, GetSetGo promises a hassle-free insurance experience like never before,” says director Gary McClarty, who has been working in the insurance industry for more than twenty years. “We wanted to give customers the added benefit of a ground-breaking rewards platform that would recognise loyalty through substantial discounts off your insurance and even ‘free’ insurance.”

The fully integrated rewards system allows customers who buy car insurance to be immediately rewarded €50 worth of reward credit, which can be used to buy other home or motor policies, or just held to use off their renewal premium. “We also give credit for referrals, so if someone referred 10 friends, that’s €500 in credit, which would cover the premiums of about 80% of our customers,” says Gary. Even better, Gary tells me there are plans afoot to introduce even more ways to use your credits, from driving lessons to hotel stays, spa treatments and much more – making that quick weekend away even more possible.

But you don’t have to leave the house either to catch a summer break. If you’ve got moody teenagers stuck indoors through the school holidays, GetSetGo has made it its aim to get them driving in a safe and cost-effective way. “We’ve been offering a telematics insurance option, also known as black box insurance, to drivers 17 and older since 2013 and we’ve recently introduced it to GetSetGo,” explains Gary. “Younger drivers tend to be at the riskiest segment of the market but our telematics device is seamlessly set up in the vehicle to monitor speed and acceleration.” Overlaid with digital maps, it can tell them when cars are breaking the speed limit or driving safely. “Since we launched it over ten years ago, we’ve seen accidents in this age group drop by more than 60%… and we know just how often fatalities occur on Irish roads so anything that can help bring down the frequency of accidents is definitely worth it.”

The data gathered will also have an impact on the cost of renewals – drivers with an increased probability of causing an accident will see increases, but those who drive safely will see a reduction in their premiums. Gary says that through its state-of-the-art technology, GetSetGo will soon be able to give black box drivers monthly updates and allow them to reap the rewards. “For instance, if they get a certain driving score this month, that’s worth €40 credit off their next renewal, and that then accumulates as the months go on.”

“Since we launched it over ten years ago, we’ve seen accidents in this age group drop by more than 60%.”

And for those Sunday drivers who only like to take the odd scenic jaunt, GetSetGo is currently developing technology to create a pay-as-you-go system, meaning you only pay insurance for the number of miles you drive. “I think that it will be a game changer because it’s the way that insurance will go with the technology that’s in the vehicles. We want to try and be ahead of the game.”

Staying ahead of the game is exactly why GetSetGo has teamed up with renowned Irish rugby star Rob Kearney as its brand ambassador. Rob has not rested on his laurels since his retirement from professional sport, developing a number of businesses and keeping his knowledge of the game in tune thanks to his punditry on Virgin Media, as well as working with sponsors and taking a part-time role with a Dublin-based wealth management firm. “As a prominent figure in the world of rugby, Kearney embodies the values of resilience, determination, and success, which resonate with GetSetGo’s ethos of delivering game-changing insurance solutions,” says Gary. “He epitomises our commitment to revolutionising the insurance industry.”

Top Irish Road Trips

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to plan that summer road trip, get set, and go! Rob and Gary give us their favourite Irish spots to visit this summer.

Carlingford is Rob’s top pick for places to visit this summer and we can see why. Part of Ireland’s Ancient East and just a short drive from his hometown on the Cooley Peninsula in Co Louth, the glacial fjord boasts scenic views, ancient walking trails, historic sites and delectable bites. The famed Carlingford oysters are absolutely not to be missed.

Gary recommends the North Antrim Coast as a beautiful stretch of road to drive, with soaring views over towering sea cliffs, iconic castles crumbling into the sea and quaint seaside towns. “The drive from Glenarm Castle to Portstewart around Horn Head, on a sunny day especially, is really fantastic,” says Gary. Of course, you’ll pass the iconic Giant’s Causeway along the way but Dunluce Castle between Bushmills and Portrush is not to be missed either.

MCL Insurance Services (Ireland) Ltd. is a pioneer in the drivers’ insurance sector operating the insurance brands Its4women, GetSetGo and BoxyMo, ridding the sector of a formerly ‘pen and paper-intensive’ process with its own revolutionary software.  *Terms and conditions apply.
