As well as generously-sized rooms, the home also features a tennis court and a stylish outdoor seating area.

Once a place where schoolchildren came everyday, The Old School House in Killiskey, Co Wicklow, has been converted into a home full of character. Originally built in 1936 by local craftsmen using Wicklow granite and slate, it still retains lots of its original features, including stones engraved with the school’s names, and signs for the boys’ and girls’ entrances.

The original two classrooms have been combined into a large living and dining space, featuring high ceilings, original solid wood floors, a large fireplace, and 12 Georgian-style sash windows ensuring the space has plenty of natural light.

This feeling of brightness continues into the breakfast room and kitchen, featuring large skylights. Exposed stone in this space adds to its character and serves as a reminder of the building’s history. The kitchen units have been painted in a restful forest green.

The home’s four bedrooms sit together away from the main living spaces of the house. The main bedroom has French doors through to the garden, a recently renovated ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe, while two of the bedrooms have fitted wardrobes. A converted attic provides additional storage, as well as views of the surrounding landscape.

Outside, the site is around 0.38 hectares, and the garden has been thoughtfully landscaped with mature planting. There is a granite patio beneath a pergola, which is ideal for al fresco dining. There are a number of outbuildings, including a self-contained annex which features a kitchen and shower room.

Set in a peaceful location just outside Ashford village, this home is also convenient for access to Dublin, situated just over three kilometres from the M11. This home is currently on sale for €1,150,000 through Lisney Sotheby’s International Realty. Click through our gallery to see the full tour of this home.
