“We know it works”: Government advises return to remote working

New nationwide restrictions were announced from Government last night

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has advised those who have returned to work to consider working from home to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

He made the suggestion during a government press conference last night, where it was announced that Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan will move to Level 4 restrictions, while household visits across the country are now banned.

“It is time to go back to remote working. We know it works. It is possible, and it would have a very significant impact in reducing transmission rates in our view,” the Taoiseach said.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar added that employees should only enter their workplace if their job cannot be done from home. “It is plainly evident to absolutely everyone there has been a slow drift or creep back to the offices and that has to stop,” he said.

The Taoiseach mentioned that the government is conscious of the effects of restrictions on people’s mental health, but said that they are advocating for these measures for a reason: to get the virus down and enable the economy to stay open.

The Tánaiste advised that more counties may soon move to Level 4 if levels of Covid-19 do not stabilise. “People whose county has not been moved to Level 4 shouldn’t think for a second that that is any reason to relax, it is likely more counties will move to Level 4,” he said.
