Baby Archie: Details of the upcoming royal christening revealed

Baby Archie, the first-born child of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, will be christened this July. Here’s what we know about the ceremony so far

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to christen their first-born child on Saturday, July 6; exactly two months after the young royal was born.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born on May 6 weighing 7lbs, 3oz, will be christened in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle (likely within St George’s Chapel, where Harry and Meghan tied the knot in 2018). It’s just a stone’s throw from their royal family home of Frogmore Cottage, with the castle grounds.

The christening gown

It’s expected Baby Archie will be dressed in the same white gown his cousins wore to their christenings.

The long, cream gown, which was worn by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, is a replica of the one made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter in 1841. The original gown, which is now too fragile to be worn again, was sported by 62 royal babies over years; including the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry.

What’s more, Baby Archie (who, unlike his cousins, does not have a royal title), will be christened over the Lily Font; a historic, silver bowl that has been used for all Windsor babies since 1841.

However, one detail being kept private (for now) is the names of Archie’s godparents. Unlike most children, members of the royal family tend to have more than two godparents; with Prince Louis (the third child of Prince William and Kate Middleton) having six.

With a star-studded circle of friends (including George and Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, and David and Victoria Beckham), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have plenty of people to choose from. No doubt whoever they choose will spoil their young boy rotten.
