Gallery: Stars arrive on the Brit Awards 2020 red carpet

Sometimes red carpets are all about fun; letting loose and not being taken too seriously. Often they are used to make sartorial statements, subtle or otherwise.

In the case of this year's Brit Awards, now in its 40th year, it was a little bit of both. Lizzo was her usual brilliant self, bringing a certain 'sweetness' to the proceedings in a Hershey's print custom gown by Moschino.

Laura Whitmore was also among best dressed in a newspaper print mini dress. Much of the print is hidden, a detail which could absolutely be seen as reflective, given her emotional tribute to her college and friend Caroline Flack, who tragically passed away at the weekend (many tabloids, in particular, have come under fire for their targeting and treatment of Flack in the months prior to her death).

Joy Crookes, who was nominated for the rising star award, also wanted to send a message. Dressed in a traditional south Asian costume, she did chose it so “young girls can see someone who looks like their mum, their auntie, their gran on the red carpet at the Brits."

Harry Styles was also on-trend in a Gucci FW20 suit, complete with a pearl necklace and an XXL lace bib collar. He also wore a black lapel in tribute to Flack, whom he used to date.

Billie Eilish took her now trademark casual chic to the carpet in a Burberry coat and matching socks (of course).  She performed her new James Bond theme tune, No Time To Die, with legendary film composer Hans Zimmer at the ceremony.
