12 XXL collars to wear over every outfit this spring

12 XXL collars to wear over every outfit this spring

We love a trend that is pretty as it is versatile, and the micro-trend madness of oversized collars is exactly what we want to try for spring

When you talk excitedly about a new shirt or dress, the collar may seem like the most uninteresting part of such a piece. But not so for SS20 — oversized, Peter Pan-style collars are everywhere for the upcoming spring season, and due to their versatility, everyone is hopping on the bandwagon.

From Ganni’s crisp white collars to Miu Miu’s Granny-chic blouses, and ASOS and Zara’s poplin dreams in a rainbow of colours, the humble collar has found its calling as a decorative detail on almost every outfit in your wardrobe. The beauty of an oversized, detailed collar is its ease of wear — over a simple jumper with jeans and runners to give the subtlest nod to style, or as an adornment on an otherwise plain dress to transform it into a showstopper. Simply flip it over your shirt’s hem and leave for the day.

To keep this trend from looking too clown costume-y, keep the rest of your look sleek and pared back. A frilly white collared shirt works beautifully with blue jeans and ankle boots, or over a black leather dress and runners. Stay away from loud prints and OTT patterns for the moment — just until you’ve honed the XL collar look.

If you need some inspiration, here are the 12 high street iterations we’ve added to our wishlist.
