Tried & Tested: IMAGE Staffer Emily O’Neill tries the tweakment of 2025
Beauty content creator and IMAGE staffer Emily O’Neill tries a new anti-ageing treatment. Here’s why she thinks polynucleotides are a must-have treatment for women in their 20s to 30s (and how you can WIN a treatment to try for yourself!)
As I get closer to turning 30, I keep toying with the idea of trying anti-ageing treatments. And, after lots of research and a wonderful chat with the team in Thérapie Clinic, Liffey Valley, I have been introduced to a fantastic option – polynucleotides. Now, I won’t lie, this was an entirely new world to me, but luckily, Thérapie has broken it down in this handy beginner’s guide.
Polynucleotides are an injectable bio-stimulator derived from purified DNA fragments, specifically salmon sperm DNA. They trigger the skin’s natural regeneration process, boosting the production of collagen and elastin, vital proteins that decline after age 25.
I know what you’re thinking, salmon sperm DNA? But trust me, it’s great to have a natural alternative that works with your skin to help soften fine lines and wrinkles.
This is what makes polynucleotides stand out. Unlike anti-wrinkle injections (which relax muscles) or dermal fillers (which add volume), they enhance skin health on a cellular level, improving hydration, cell turnover and elasticity for long-term results.
The above statement is what sold me on the treatment. I knew I wanted my skin to look plump and hydrated, but I also wanted something to help treat some old acne scarring I have. When I reviewed the benefits of polynucleotides, I knew it was the treatment for me.

Benefits of polynucleotides
- Skin regeneration: Stimulates fibroblast cells responsible for collagen and elastin production.
- Improved hydration: Boosts skin moisture, especially when combined with hyaluronic acid.
- Reduced scarring and wrinkles: Promotes tissue regeneration to fade fine lines and acne scars.
- Under-eye brightening: Reduces dark circles and rejuvenates tired under-eyes.
- Enhanced skin health: Addresses rosacea, hyperpigmentation and uneven texture.
“Polynucleotides are injectable bio-stimulators crucial for collagen banking,” explains Dr Kady Garib, cosmetic injector doctor at Thérapie Clinic. “They enhance tissue repair, increase cell turnover, and boost collagen and elasticity, while hydrating the skin through potent wound-healing properties.”
After chatting to the Thérapie team and putting my mind at ease, I booked in for a course of three Polynucleotide sessions in their Liffey Valley clinic. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt comfortable and relaxed and even a little bit excited. Before this, I had never had any treatments other than the odd facial here and there.
I thought I would be very nervous at the thought of my face being injected repeatedly, but it was a walk in the park. Although I still felt a little pinch here and there during the treatment, it was nothing to ever worry about. I left my first treatment thoroughly looking forward to the next!
Polynucleotides vs other injectables
The biggest difference is that polynucleotides are regenerative, not just corrective. While anti-wrinkle injections relax facial muscles and dermal fillers add volume, polynucleotides repair and rebuild the skin’s structure, producing natural, long-lasting results.
The offer preventative care from the mid-20s onward, supporting skin through hormonal changes (pre, during and post-menopause) and are ideal for anyone seeking subtle yet powerful skin enhancement.
“Our collagen production starts declining from age 25 and can accelerate in our 30s,” adds Dr Garib. “Polynucleotides are an effective way to future-proof the skin.”
I am now about six months post-treatments, and I really started to see the benefits after just four weeks. My skin started to look much fresher and healthier without make-up, and I felt confident to go out and about without it. I noticed that the fine lines on my forehead essentially disappeared, and my skin looked the best it ever had.
It is no surprise that Thérapie has seen an increase of over 90% in new polynucleotide clients throughout 2025 in Ireland alone – it’s definitely the “tweakment” of 2025!
