With its own private lake, direct beach access and incredible views, the Lake House in Howth is one of the country’s most aspirational homes.

An utterly unique property in Howth, Co Dublin, the Lake House is a tailor-made home in a spectacular seaside location.

The house is lifted out of the ground to comply with Fingal Co Council’s flooding policy. The result is a raised house with great views and lots of sunlight.”

Extending to 267 sqm of accommodation, the interior reflects the modern exterior and is bright and contemporary. Focusing on comfortable living, large feature windows allow natural light to flow throughout while also offering incredible views of the surrounding countryside.

The home is cantilevered over the lake to the east and set back from the lakeshore to provide a sunny front garden. As per the Daft.ie description, the entry level provides a reception hallway, swimmers’ shower room, boot room, garage and plant room. 

A beautiful oak staircase connects the entrance hallway to the first floor, featuring the Lake Room, which extends over the water below. This level also has sleeping accommodation, a beautiful bathroom and a second kitchen, making it the perfect guest and family accommodation.

The open-plan living room is on the second floor along with a kitchen with rear pantry area and extensive storage. The covered outdoor patio/bbq area off the living room provides the perfect space in which to entertain family and friends – particularly in the summer when the weather allows for al fresco dining. The main bedroom and a guest bedroom, each with an en suite bathroom, are located on the upper level.

On the upper level you will discover the spacious principal bedroom and a guest bedroom, each with an en suite bathroom. 

Deep external walls are fully insulated, in combination with the triple-glazed German windows and the heat recovery and ventilation system, they ensure warmth and freshness throughout.

The lake itself is steeped in history, having once been a limestone quarry. In the 1930s Commodore Fred Higginbotham created a canal and sluice gate to provide winter berths for boats from the Howth Yacht Club. The remains of the channel walls and gantry can still be seen today on the beach. 

Sitting on circa 0.323 HA (o.8 acres), the site features a lake and landscaped irrigated gardens to the south along with manicured, grass-covered sand dunes. It also has direct private beach access. Burrow and Claremont are sandy beaches renowned for swimming, paddle boarding and kite surfing. 

Howth Village is a 15-minute walk away, via the beach or road. There you’ll find the historic harbour as well as an abundance of amenities ranging from fish shops to excellent restaurants and pubs, Howth Yacht Club and many local cafes. In the summer, passenger ferries operate routes out to Ireland’s Eye and Dun Laoghaire. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are also many scenic walks and hillside hikes. Dublin city centre is a 25-minute drive away with a wide range of transport routes (including bus and DART).
