The rain jackets that will keep you looking chic, even when it’s pouring

The rain jackets that will keep you looking chic, even when it’s pouring

Storm Lorenzo is on its way, and it’s bringing with it a lot of rain. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with the perfect rain jacket edit

It’s not easy choosing what to wear when it’s raining cats and dogs outside, as a perfect outfit is quickly replaced with what’s practical.

I don’t know about you, but since the days of my mother shouting ‘where’s your coat!?’ at me as I ran out the front door, I’ve been avoiding dressing appropriately for the weather. How many times have you worn a light coat or jacket because it complimented your outfit, and thought you’d be grand as long as you had an umbrella?

Unfortunately, Irish weather is generally not ideal for umbrellas. A puff of wind and they’ve turned inside out and your hair is drenched. So, how to choose something that keeps you dry, has a hood but doesn’t look like you’re off to walk the dog?

Although we have agreed here at IMAGE that Paddington Bear is, in fact, a style icon, you may not want to wear a bright yellow coat and welly boots. I bought myself a yellow Rains jacket a few years ago and although I do love it, it isn’t the easiest to style.

A classic, simple raincoat in black or a neutral shade is ideal for throwing over work-wear. Alternatively, go printed and make a statement with yours like some of the ones below from Rains or Ganni. Just make sure you choose something you definitely like the cut and style of — it needs to be both functional and fashionable as chances are, you’ll be wearing it a lot.
