PJ Kirby: A week in my wardrobe

PJ Kirby: A week in my wardrobe

by PJ Kirby
26th Mar 2023

Podcaster, dancer, and proud Cork man, PJ Kirby knows how to bring the glamour and serve a look. Here he shares a week in his wardrobe.

MONDAY

Ok, so it’s Monday… i.e. time to do some work because the Sunday fear had me up to 90 the night before. All my work is on the computer today. Editing, recording and virtual meetings are on the schedule so I’m going to keep it comfy. It’s giving sort of a gay street fighter fantasy and I’m here for it. I decided to wear this today because I wore it before so I didn’t need to think about “putting it together”, and also it was clean. The washing basket is full and it’s stressing me out. The cropped tie dye top and silk pants (that I think professional fighters wear) are from vintage shops in Brick Lane in London. The shoes are Crocs because I’m addicted to them and the glasses are from Regatta Great Outdoors in the Ilac Centre.

TUESDAY

The sun decided to show its face in Dublin and I’m obsessed. Comfort is always one of my main considerations when getting ready because if I’m not comfortable in something, I won’t feel confident in it. It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it and all that – was that very Gok Wan of me? I was buzzing because my Flop Era top arrived from a brand called OGBBF. It reminds me of when Britney used to wear those statement tees back in the day. I paired it with my Nike Air More Uptempo ’96 shoes and a pair of vintage Levis’s jeans that I thrifted a few years back. Levi’s jeans of any kind are such a good investment, unlike the cheaper alternatives they’ll keep their shape and you’ll have them for years to come. Every time I wear Levi’s, I’ve to listen to my sister talk about how she and her friends used to wear them in the bath to make them fit perfectly. I must try that someday.

WEDNESDAY

Jane Fonda better watch her back because I’m coming for her gig with the amount of fitness I’m serving today. I’m going from a yoga class to teach a dance workshop to the gym so I decided to wear my Nike long sleeve top that I got from their site, and just robbed my fella’s shorts. When I’m wearing my fitness bits I like to wear nice earrings to add a bit of glamour to the whole situation. These silver earrings are from H&M and the glasses are from Centra… don’t knock it; new sunnies and a few bits from the deli is the way forward. Also If you haven’t noticed, putting sunnies on my head is one of my biggest weaknesses.

THURSDAY

After a day in fitness gear, I wanted to get a bit dolled up today. I think fashion is just about having a skit and expressing yourself in whatever way feels authentic to you. I like taking things that are stereotypically “masculine” and remixing them into something that feels more me. I thrifted this suit jacket and got it cropped by the lovely people at The Zip Yard and then paired it with a cropped Playboy top because why not, you know? The pants are from the COS women’s section and I am so obsessed with them that I got them in another colour. The high waist is so flattering, they’re lightweight and are so versatile, 10/10 would recommend.

FRIDAY

I’m going to have a chilled dinner and drinks with my friends this evening and want to serve something relaxed but still kind of dressy. I ended up looking like our girlboss Molly Mae on her way to a PLT meeting… but I’m okay with it. You can’t really go wrong with an all-black outfit and a statement jacket. I got the jacket as a hand-me-down from my friend but think it’s originally from PLT which is ironic. The bag is Guess that my boyfriend drifted from Dublin Vintage Factory. I love going vintage shopping as you find unique pieces that you’ll have forever. The vest I’m wearing is from the H&M women’s section and lads, they’re unreal if you want a structured vest. Sunnies are Weekday, who do really cute accessories in general.

SATURDAY

This is what happens when Fred from Scooby Doo and Harry Styles have a baby. I’m obsessed with this Jacquemus zip-up and paired it with these Samsøe Samsøe flares (which I was too lazy to iron). As I get older, I’m trying to invest in higher-quality clothes which will last longer. I was going to be bopping around town today so I took my Telfar bag with me. I wanted one of these bags for so long and finally got one last year and I’m weak for it. Finished the look with my Prada loafers because I was feeling boujee. I don’t have that many shoes which is something I need to sort out as I hate when you’ve a fire outfit and the shoes are a letdown… that’s very much a first-world problem so won’t stress too much about it but if you see any stunning size 11s, send them my way.

SUNDAY

By Sunday I’m just happy I made it through the week, so my plan is to chill. I love going to some sort of market with an iced coffee in hand and acting like the main character. This Cold Laundry tracksuit set is one of my go-to’s. It’s a trackie but still gives fashion which I think is fab. Also, wearing anything monochromatic is an easy way to look put together. I paired it with this fluffy bucket hat from Weekday and a tote I got ages ago from ASOS. The Crocs have returned but I’ve lost all the jibbitz I got for them. So that’s my week, thanks so much for coming along with me. If I was to give any bit of style advice it would be that life is too short so wear whatever the f*ck you want! xx
