5 of the best coronavirus explainer videos

Sometimes videos are easier to understand than lengthy articles – here are five of the best coronavirus explainers

Information about Covid-19 is everywhere, but lengthy articles aren’t for everyone. We’ve found five great videos across the web that break everything down simply, from how the coronavirus affects the body day-by-day, to how to correctly wash your hands to avoid contamination.

There are also videos on how to deal with the anxiety of isolation, as well as how to discuss Covid-19 with your kids. If you have a few minutes to spare, turn up the volume and take it all in:

What symptoms look like, day by day

In this video by Abby Tang for Science Insider, the timeline of Covid-19 symptoms is broken down day-by-day, with animations to make it even easier to understand. The video also breaks down the symptoms for mild cases, then moderate, all the way up to severe and critical.

An expert explains social distancing

Speaking plainly and simply to Vox, social epidemiologist Carolyn Cannuscio explains exactly what is meant by social distancing. The video covers everything from how we should think about social distancing, and what measures we should each be taking to do our part in slowing down the spread of Covid-19.

How to talk to kids about Covid-19

Produced by the Child Mind Institute, this video shows Clinical Psychologist Jamie Howard sharing advice on how to talk to children about Covid-19. She discusses the importance of clear communication with kids so that they don’t feel scared, as well as the need to limit their access to the news.

How to cope with anxiety and self-isolation

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious at this time, and being separated from loved ones doesn’t help. In this video by The Guardian, Behavioural Psychologist Jo Hemmings talks you through how to cope with these feelings while offering advice to anyone with a fear of isolation.

How to wash your hands properly

We all think we know how to wash our hands properly, but as this video shows, there’s more to it than you think. If you imagine the black paint is soap, you can see just how easy it is to miss key sections of your hands. The fingertips are easily forgotten, as are the thumbs. This video, which was originally shared by restaurateur Harjinder Singh Kukreja, shows the correct technique to wash your hands for proper disinfection.
