Why getting your brand’s message across is imperative to your business

Getting your message right changes everything – in business, in your career and in how the world sees you, writes transformation coach and business mentor Niamh Ennis.

You’re working hard, showing up, doing all the ‘right’ things, but for some reason, it’s not landing. You’re not getting noticed, the emails don’t get replies, the Instagram content falls flat, the CV doesn’t open the door, you feel invisible in the workplace and the offer doesn’t convert. We assume it must be the product. The service. The price. Ourselves.

Instead, it’s what I’ve seen over and over with clients in business, women climbing the career ladder and with established founders ready to expand. It’s not your work. It’s your messaging.

Why many smart women get stuck

It’s where so many talented women lose traction. We downplay our achievements, soften our language, or overcomplicate our ideas; all in an effort to be liked, understood, or not to come across as ‘too much.’ Clarity isn’t arrogance. Owning your message isn’t ego. It’s leadership and it’s what allows people to see the real value behind what you do, whether that’s leading a team, launching a product, or pitching a bold new idea.

Your message is the bridge between you and the opportunity

Whether you’re running a business or building your own personal brand inside an organisation, your message is how you make people care. It’s how you help them understand what you do, why it matters, and why you’re the right person to do it. It’s how you move from being ‘talented but unclear’ to being ‘known, trusted and chosen.’ Your message is what allows people to see you clearly, so they can say yes.

What happens when your message is off
– You work twice as hard to get half the recognition.
– You attract the wrong opportunities, ones that drain your time or undervalue your skills.
– You sound like everyone else, even when your story is completely your own.
– You keep getting passed over, not because you’re not ready, but because you’re not visible in the right way.

This is absolutely true whether you’re selling a skincare package, pitching a workshop to HR, or interviewing for the next level in your career.

What happens when you nail it
– The right people find you, trust you, and most importantly, want to work with you.
– You show up with confidence, not just because you’ve practised your pitch, but because you know it’s aligned.
– You stop diluting your magic and you start doubling down on it.
– Your brand (personal or professional) becomes memorable, consistent, and magnetic.

Messaging isn’t just about what you say; it’s about what they hear

So, if you’ve been feeling like something’s not quite clicking, this is your sign to stop tweaking the offer or the CV and instead, take a closer look at your message. What is it saying? Because once you get that right, everything else starts to move. Getting your message right isn’t about clever copywriting or buzzwords. It’s about alignment. When your message reflects your true strengths, values, and intentions, everything starts to feel easier, and not just externally, but internally. You stop questioning yourself before every post, pitch or presentation. You trust your voice because it’s rooted in who you are, not who you think you need to be.

The truth is that your message is already there. It’s just buried under layers of noise, doubt, and outdated expectations. Stripping that back takes intention and time, but it’s worth it. Because when you speak with clarity and conviction, people don’t just notice, they remember. And that’s where the real opportunities begin.

Say what matters

In the end, it’s never about saying more. It’s about saying what matters, in a way that truly reflects who you are and what you stand for. That’s the message that moves people and that’s the one worth getting right.
