Weekend Guide: From art exhibitions to sample sales, here’s what’s happening around Ireland

Making plans for the weekend ahead? Here are some top notch events that might just pique your interest.

Rathmullan Film Fest

16 — 19 Feb, Rathmullan, Donegal

Established in 2017 and launched in 2018, the Rathmullan Film Festival is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit, participatory festival located in the seaside village of Rathmullan, Co. Donegal. Taking place across four days, the festival features great film screenings??? ?rangings from locally shot ?documentaries? and ?Irish shorts to new releases? ?and? ?old favourites?. Across the weekend there will also be food and ?film experiences?, industry talks?, sports fun? ?and plenty of ?pub entertainment?.?

Take Off Festival

16 — 19 Feb, Firkin Crane, Shandon, Cork

An exciting contemporary festival for Cork city, Take Off celebrates and showcases thrilling dance artists from Ireland and Europe. Presenting three international choreographers’ works, chosen from the Aerowaves Twenty22 selected artists, they will be presented on shared programmes alongside the work of three Irish choreographers. Each performance will be followed by a Q&A session and a reception with the artists to deepen audiences’ engagement with the work.

The Love Ball

Friday 17 Feb, Centre Point, Curved Street, Temple Bar, Dublin

Returning due to popular demand, the Love Ball is bringing the all-inclusive, magical vibe of the 80s New York Vogue scene to Dublin city. While the full lineup is yet to be announced, you can expect two rooms, nine acts, face painting, vogueing, and an incredible catwalk. Naturally, the theme is all things love, and music stylings will range from disco and synth-pop to deep house and techno.

People, Places, Things & The Space In-Between exhibition launch

Friday 17 Feb — Sunday 12 March, Outset Gallery, The Cornstore, Galway

This weekend, a new exhibition entitled ‘People, Places, Things & The Space In-Between’ will celebrate its opening night in Galway’s Outset Gallery. Curated by Tom McLean, the exhibition is the gallery’s first of the year, and will feature a diverse lineup of visual artists and photographers based in Ireland exploring a multitude of concepts and themes through lens-based media.

Saturday 18 Feb, Rivercourt Hotel, Kilkenny

Slow fashion footwear and handbag designer Nicki Hoyne is hosting her first ever sample sale this weekend after building up a glorious collection of slightly imperfect products, samples and photoshoot returns over the past two years. You can expect samples that have never been seen before and a fantastic mix of styles and sizes, all for affordable prices.
