From candles and cosy pyjamas to new season coats and rustic wreaths, here are some of the items IMAGE staffers can’t live without come autumn…

Emily Farrell, Social Media Manager

Coming into the colder months, comfort is so important for me! My autumn essentials are pjs from The White Company, a gorgeous candle from La Bougie – Mission Fig & Honeysuckle Sea Salt are my faves, and a fun mug for endless cups of tea, Anthropology do the best ones!

On an ideal autumn day, you’ll find me cosied up on the couch, indulging in tea and biscuits and watching Gilmore Girls. To set the mood, I’ve already started picking up autumnal decor – I’ve had my eye on this rustic wreath from Dunnes and this cool Samhain candle from D8 Design Co, with scents of ‘pumpkin spice and notions’ to ward off unwanted ghosts and rainy day blues. Finally, one can never have too many cozy jumpers, and this gorgeous brown jumper from H&M is the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe.

For me, autumn means it’s time to ditch my summertime affair with iced coffees and return to my steadfast love, tea. My favourite for this time of year is Wall & Keogh’s Chai blend, full of warming spices. I make it in a little cast iron teapot (similar to this one) that keeps it warm for ages, and gives me plenty to sip through the afternoon.

Sarah Finnan, Deputy Digital Editor

I’m a summer girl through and through so it usually takes some settling in time for me to fully embrace autumn – a few things help: 1. I love being cosy so anything soft, fluffy and hotter than the surface of the sun (i.e. my hot water bottle), is immediately added back into daily rotation. I recently splurged on a new duvet and set of pillows and honestly, it’s been life-changing – I don’t mind that it’s cold and dark outside as much when I’m happily snuggled up inside. 2. Candles and lots of them. The big light must never be turned on when it’s dark outside and that’s a hill I’m willing to die on. Flickering flames are the epitome of hygge and always make me feel calm after a long day. La Bougie and the Home Moment make beautiful scented versions if you need recommendations. 3. And finally, good food – a must at any time of year but particularly during the colder months. Cooking can be a chore, but I love the ritual of it so expect big Nancy Meyers kitchen vibes from me this year.

Holly O’Neill, Digital Editor & Beauty Editor

Two new loves have put me into Meg Ryan fall mode; first, this perfect weave bag from Irish slow fashion brand Aleo. It’s giving crunchy leaves, pumpkin spice latte, Merlot, soft knitwear and cozy fires, I want to curl up inside its soft leather until winter comes. Secondly, Irish perfumer Cloon Keen’s new Armarius Candle, €45, a tribute to an Irish monastic scriptorium and a smoky haze of incense dispersed with amber, clary sage, eucalyptus, thyme, tonka and cedarwood. This is the candle to bring autumn into your home – it smells like a sexy church (forgive me, Father).

No season opens itself up to vibe curation quite as much autumn. The darker evenings are still a novelty, every shade of orange, brown and yellow make the heart sing, and there’s an undoubtable sense of magic in the air. Fashion wise, I’m still clinging onto mini skirts until winter rolls in and makes it impossible. I have three months of patterned tights time and I intend to make good use of it, and they help make it look like you put a lot of effort in regardless of the rest of the look. I’ve been making eyes at a shearling jacket for some time now, and I think it’s time to take the plunge.

Fairy lights, cosy pyjamas (the kind that keep you warm, without making you boil alive in bed — fellow sweaty girls know the struggle), and a few flickering candles and I’m content as could be.

Hannah Stapleton, Marketing Intern

To me, autumn is all about Gossip Girl re-runs and comfort food. The minute October 1 hits I’m perched on the couch watching Gossip Girl and quoting every word of my favourite episodes. Food-wise, anything warm and comforting, soup, cookies, even coffee – I’ll take it all. If I’m looking for a movie, it’s Harry Potter marathons in candlelit peace! I’m loving this candle – lavender is a firm favourite of mine. I am also the biggest fan of a trench coat, and this leads me to welcome the colder days with open arms. I’m loving this POCO trench!
