Israel approves ceasefire with Hamas that includes release of hostages
Israel’s cabinet has approved a ceasefire deal with the Hamas militant group that would bring a temporary halt to a devastating war that has stretched on for over six weeks. Hamas will release dozens of hostages being held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for Palestinians in Israeli prisons. Under the deal, Hamas is to free 50 of the roughly 240 hostages it is holding in the Gaza Strip over a four-day period, the Israeli government said.

Woman (30s) hospitalised after shooting in Tallaght
A woman is being treated in hospital after a suspected shooting in Tallaght, Dublin, last night. At approximately 10.10pm, gardaí received reports that a firearm had been discharged at a residence in the Jobstown area. A woman aged, in her 30s, subsequently presented herself to Tallaght Hospital with a suspected gunshot injury. Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Tenants to be offered new statutory ‘right to purchase’ when landlord is selling
Landlords selling a property will be obliged to first offer it to the tenant on the basis of an independent valuation under new legislation being proposed by Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien. The draft Residential Tenancies (Right to Purchase) Bill, seen by The Irish Times, will give tenants the right to first refusal if the landlord is selling. Under the rules, once a notice termination is served signalling the landlord’s intention to sell, the landlord must simultaneously invite their tenant to make a bid to purchase the property. The tenant will then have a period of 90 days to make one or more bids.

Government agrees increases in all classes of PRSI
The Government has signed off on a plan to increase PRSI over five years to replenish the Social Insurance Fund. Under the plan there will be incremental increases in all classes of PRSI. This decision will see hikes in PRSI rates for employers, employees and the self-employed. These increases will support the retention of the State Pension Age at 66.

Mother describes ‘nightmare’ after son among four teenagers found dead in North Wales
The mother of one of the four teenagers found dead after a car crash in North Wales has said she wishes she could wake from her “nightmare”. Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, Wilf Henderson and Hugo Morris – all aged 16, 17 and 18 – were found in a silver Ford Fiesta in Snowdonia (Eryri) on Tuesday, after they were reported missing from an overnight camping trip. An urgent search operation was launched by police, who found their bodies inside the overturned car, after it left the A4085 at Garreg, near Tremadog, and was partially submerged in water.

Sam Altman: Ousted OpenAI boss to return days after being sacked
OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman will return as boss just days after he was fired by the board, the firm has said. The agreement “in principle” involves a new board members being appointed, the tech company added. It comes after Mr Altman was sacked on Friday triggering an open letter from staff who threatened to resign unless he was reinstated.
