Taking place on Tuesday, September 9, the annual Boots Night Walk returns for its fourteenth year of raising vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing Service.
Heading into its fourteenth year on Tuesday, September 9, the Boots Night Walk raises vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing Service, which provides end-of-life care for cancer patients in their own home.
To date, the Boots Ireland partnership with the Irish Cancer Society has raised over €4 million, equating to over 10,350 nights of care. Speaking about the event, this year’s ambassador Maia Dunphy said: “Being part of the Boots Night Walk is incredibly meaningful to me. The night nurses offer such profound comfort and dignity at a time when families need it most… I truly hope everyone can join us on September 9, in the Phoenix Park or in their own communities, to support this vital service.”
How to get involved
If you want to get involved in this year’s Boots Night Walk, you can opt to join the public walk in Dublin, walk at your own location across Ireland, or just donate what you can if you can’t lace up your trainers.
The public walk has a €15 sign-up fee and sets off from the Papal Cross Car Park in the Phoenix Park, Dublin 8. Registration will open from 6.15 pm onwards, with the walk commencing at 7pm. Live music on the night will be provided by the Dublin Gospel Choir.
To walk at a location of your choosing, you can register online and pay your €15 sign-up fee, and set out on a walk at your leisure. The team suggested a walk of around 3.5km, in the spirit of the Dublin event.
If you can’t take part this time, you can still support the cause. Just click the ‘Donate’ button on the Boots Night Walk website. Every contribution helps fund the Irish Cancer Society’s Night Nursing Service.
Alongside the walk, Honour Tags will be on sale in Boots stores nationwide for €3. Customers can purchase a tag in honour of someone who has survived or passed away from cancer. The Honour Tags provide space for you to reflect or remember someone affected by cancer.
Colleagues from Boots and members of the public come together at the Night Walk to reflect, remember and honour these individuals affected by cancer. The Night Walk is also an opportunity to honour with gratitude the work of the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing Service and the invaluable care they provide.
All funds raised from the Night Walk will go towards the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing Service which provides end of life care for cancer patients, allowing them to pass away at home surrounded by family and loved ones as well as giving much needed respite for the family caring for them.
