What can you not get out of your head right now? IMAGE editors are obsessing over 90s oversize sweaters, cashmere socks, winter coats, cosy bras and seasonal veg boxes; basically, all the lockdown essentials. Here's what's on our shopping wishlists in January.
In January, I’ve lived in this oversize crewneck sweater from athletic streetwear brand Sporty and Rich having received it as a Christmas gift. It’s the softest thing I own and thanks to it’s sporty 90’s feel, when I wear it with leggings, I look less like I have a hangover and more like Princess Diana in bicycle shorts. Now I can’t stop shopping for oversize sweaters. I want more from Sporty and Rich, I want all the sweaters from Rotate Sunday, the Instagram-famous loungewear brand that’s just landed in Ireland, I want this Anine Bing one (another brand who has just arrived in Brown Thomas) and every jumper from this incredible collaboration between Jessie Bush and Kitri. All the oversize sweaters for me please. — Holly O’Neill, Beauty Editor and Deputy Digital Editor
While I was looking at that Mango coat Gigi Hadid wore I got sidetracked by this beauty. Just so chic and slouchy, like a 1990s Max Mara coat. I have a thing for coats so I haven’t hit “proceed to check-out” just yet, but it’s inevitable at this stage. Also, I got these socks as a gift and they have become my go-to gift of 2021. Everyone should have cashmere socks, man woman and child, they’re amazing. I want to say it’s like putting my feet in warm butter but that doesn’t quite paint the visual I want. Anyway, all my friends can expect to receive these this year, plus they’re reasonably priced and Irish. I’m also looking at ordering a weekly seasonal veg box to force me to be more adventurous with my cooking. Weekl.ie is a great Dublin one. — Lauren Heskin, Editor, IMAGE.ie
Like Lauren, I am a total coat addict, although I really told myself I wasn’t going to buy one this winter. But since walking is now my only pastime, I’ve realised my outerwear collection somehow doesn’t contain anything that’s both waterproof and has a hood. After trying to remedy this, I have realised that the reason I don’t own one is that they’re generally gross (and frequently pink), but I’m tempted by this men’s North Face one, which at least feels a little edgy. A decidedly unsexy purchase, but I guess life is pretty unsexy right now. Also, since getting a fringe cut before Christmas (pretty bad timing, I’m probably going to have to trim myself soon), I’ve been properly blowdrying and straightening my hair a lot more often, so have been on the lookout for a good styling product to smooth my pretty thick waves. On Holly’s recommendation I recently ordered Living Proof Smooth Blowout Concentrate and am excited to try it out. Anything that makes drying my hair faster would be an absolute dream! — Megan Burns, Deputy Editor, IMAGE, Image Interiors
Since WFH, my shopping cart has been filled with the essentials, like leggings, socks and bras. I’ve actually been going through a new bra phase. I’ve discovered that all my bras are bulky and uncomfortable – all around unsuitable for working from home. So, I’ve been ordering bralettes online (a challenging task since I am a 34F) and trying to find a comfortable compromise. I LOVE Figleaves. I tried them after Tara Povey recommended them on her Instagram. Their bras are super comfortable and cute, something I never thought I could find in my size. Other than that, I’ve just been shopping for my new pup, Pax! I’m officially a shameless dog mum. Club Huey has some adorable sweaters and t-shirts. — Shayna Sappington, Branded Content Writer
