How to create a wintry make-up look in just three minutes
13th Dec 2024
Celebrity make-up artist Christine Lucignano shares how to create a gorgeous day-to-night make-up look in just three minutes.
Who has time for multi-step make-up looks right now? But we still want impact, and as if we’ve just left our favourite MUA’s chair, Christine Lucignano has the answer – and it involves a lot less time and products than you think!
All you need is one eye palette to create two looks in just three minutes.
“If you haven’t already changed up your make-up look for winter, do it right away! The light is different during these months, and those diffused summer washes don’t translate. Here’s a look that gives the eyes drama and definition, and can be built on for night without having to start over.”
By day
“I love the ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ eyeshadow palette in the No7 Pro Artist Collection (€21.99); each of the four shades are winners, and the colour payoff is so good, just one sweep is enough. Apply with a fluffy brush, and here’s the kicker: keep your eyes open and look forward while doing so. This is how to fight gravity and disguise a heavy lid.
“Then, I like to take my darkest shade, tap it at the outer corner, and lift. Blend. Remember, both eyes won’t be identical; that’s okay, but you don’t want to see the start and stop of the colour. If you feel you’ve overdone it – come back with concealer on a flat brush and tidy up, this gives another nice little lift to the eye.
“Then, the last step with application – there are two shimmer shades in the palette, pat one onto the lower lid to spotlight, and press in; your fingertips are your best friend here. Now blending – here’s where the pros are meticulous. Use a clean brush to clean up the edges and also marry the product to the skin.”
“Complete the look with liner. The No7 Pro Artist 12 Hour Artist Pencil comes in two shades: Noir Black and Noisette Brown (€16.99 each). Both offer good playtime… then they set and don’t move. Work one eye at a time, pencilling along the lashline to amplify definition. Then, look straight into the mirror to place your flick… and blend. Set with a brush.”
“Finish with brows and after shaping, set them with the clear Runway Ready Brow Gel from the No7 Pro Artist Collection (€19.99). Brush the brows up with one layer of the product and let it dry a little, then add another layer to finish. Bam! All that’s left is a coat of mascara and she’s ready.”
After dark
“For night, and I swear this just takes a matter of seconds, go back in with the eyeliner. Bring it into the water line, and also apply in dots at the lash line before blending. Once it sets, you’ve got 12 hours of party time – an all-night-long pencil. Don’t worry about precision, the whole modernity is in the messiness.
“Then, to add insta-glamour, get a cotton bud and using the shimmery pure pigment in the palette, pop the colour in the light spot at the inside of the eye. Movie icon Marlene Dietrich always used this trick. And if you fancy another little hack – the copper tone shadow in the palette works great as an instant highlighter on cheeks.”
“Finally, take lipstick to do a diffused stain. The act of bruising the lip with colour, combined with a richer eye looks very contemporary and instantly brings up the drama (and not many people know this!).
“Set the lot with the No7 Pro Artist Finishing Touch Fixing Spray (€25.99) and your make-up will last as long as you do!”
The No7 Pro Artist Collection is available in selected Boots stores nationwide and at boots.ie.
