Why Are Parisian Journalists Snubbing The Olsen Twins?

Why Are Parisian Journalists Snubbing The Olsen Twins?

The Olsen Twins have come under fire for their show at Paris Fashion Week.

Designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen shocked their New York devotees a few weeks ago when they announced their fashion brand The Row would not be showing at the city’s fashion week this autumn, but decamping to Paris. Most insiders said that the decision was a financial one – Paris tends to attract the most serious international buyers and moving their runway show to the French capital would help Mary-Kate and Ashley’s lauded label reach a wider audience.

However, the course of profit projections never did run smooth. In fact, some people in Paris are pretty pissed the former child actresses have decided to swoop into an already crowded calendar. Page Six reports that the Chambre Syndicale du Pr?t – Porter des Couturiers et des Cr?ateurs de Mode, the French equivalent of the British Fashion Council, issued strict instructions to French fashion journalists and editors that they were not to attend The Row show, which clashes with those of French labels Vionnet and Rochas. Page Six‘s source says the organisation felt the Olsen twins were stealing the media spotlight from brands native to the country, when all the headlines should belong to French houses.

All this politicking threw the Olsen’s Parisian party plans into disarray. The Row show was due to be held at a 17th-century chateau outside Paris. Upon closer consideration, the twins made the party into a smaller affair than was initially planned, with a separate show for Press on Tuesday in the city centre. No doubt al this changing of plans was influenced by the Chambre Syndicate’s demands.

Now the fashion world is wondering what The Row’s next step is going to be? Will the Olsen’s return to Paris in the Spring and play nice? Or will they return to their home ground?
