Trending: Four shoes you will be wearing this summer

It might be raining but our imaginary sun googles are looking at all things shoes. Summer gives us a range of choice when it comes to footwear choice but we have chosen four you will most definitely be wearing this season…

Although the temperamental Irish weather may be telling a different story, it’s time to stock up on summer shoes.

Summer shoe dressing is a bit of a minefield. Something you might think is simple, but in reality, is a myriad of bandages and tears.

Due to the heat, friction becomes commonplace which leads to cuts, which leads to limping and eventually leads you to have a breakdown in the street while hobbling into the nearest Boots screaming for a bandage.

However, it’s actually the most dynamic time of year for shoe trends. Autumn and winter usually call for boots and nothing else, but in summer you can still wear your boots and so much more. From sandals to slides, trainers to espadrilles, mules to kitten heels – the choice is endless.

But there are four trends, in particular, that stand out from the crowd. And we are showing you where to buy them and how to wear them.

Espadrilles

There is no other shoe in this world that emotes feelings of sun holidays than a trusty espadrille. From flat to wedge versions, they are one of the most versatile shoes you can have in your arsenal. Perfect with midi dresses, shorts and even jeans, if you invest in one shoe this summer let these be it.

Top tip: Don’t be afraid of the wedge versions, they are sturdy and comfortable enough to wear all day and help to elongate the leg.

Ugly sandals

Since the introduction of the Triple S Balenciaga trainers in 2017, the fashion world has been obsessed with the ugly trainer trend. Love it or hate it, it took off and chunky trainers are everywhere. And now, thanks to designers such as Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Prada, ugly sandals are very much a thing.

Velcro straps and chunky soles are the defining aspects of these sandals, which may put many of you off but it’s all in the styling. When worn with a pretty midi dress they add edge, and when worn with jeans and a plain t-shirt give a chic simplicity.

Top tip: Choose embellished versions if you don’t want to give in to the velcro strap chunky versions just yet.

Veja trainers

Unless you have been living under a rock void of social media, you will have seen the fashion crew wearing these ‘it’ status trainers. Created in 2005, the French brand has been changing the status quo in the sneaker world. Ethical in their practices, the brand uses materials such as organic cotton, natural rubber, plastic bottles, recycled polyester and vegan leather to create their signature trainers.

Worn by the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and celebrities such as Emma Watson, Veja trainers have hit cult status. And now you can get your hands on them too, with Brown Thomas, Office and Seagreen all stocking the brand.

Top tip: Wear with a tailored suit to give an instantaneous level of cool nonchalance to the look.

Strappy heels

Strappy heels have been making the rounds for a long time, but 2019 has been the year where they have taken off into the fashion stratosphere. Sexy yet timeless with a Carrie Bradshaw feel, they will go with just about everything in your wardrobe. And the high street is doing them particularly well this season from Zara to Mango to Topshop.

Top tip: Keep it simple by pairing them with straight leg jeans and a plain white t-shirt for a classic nineties laidback look.
