Seven exciting dresses to up your wedding guest game

Wedding invites stacking up? You’ll need a frock that rocks, then. Be inspired by our edit of the best wedding guest dresses to snap up this summer…

I know, I know, you’re probably bored rigid with the what-to-wear-wedding column inches generated by that royal wedding. But that doesn’t mean you won’t have at least one to go to this summer. If you want to go the pastel-suit-and-fascinator route, don’t let me stop you. If, on the other hand, you want to avoid that at all costs, may I suggest that it’s time to pledge your high-fashion allegiance. This season if there’s one look that instantly says ‘I know new and I’m not afraid to try it’, it’s the one-stop statement frock. It’s a look that says special but not flashy, sexy but not trashy and oozes with understated chic. While their silhouette might be reserved (no bottom skimming/side boob flashing moments here), these modern dresses are bold and vibrant –  think riotous colours, lush patterns, zingy prints and with opulent detailing. What’s not to love?

Cut high on the neck with a relaxed waist and rocking frothy ruffles, this trophy piece in a sunshine colour will be an utter joy to wear.

Dress by Preen Line, €360 at netaporter.com

A really good print goes a long way.  We’re sold on this zero hassle design that’s equal parts effortless and fabulous,

Cora tribe, €675 at Helen Steele

Ignore the naysayers – stripes work for all. Head-turning, super wide diagonals and horizontals will always deliver.

If you’re going to wear a one-piece outfit, you better make it count… Here swishy sequins and a layered skirt give a vintage boutique kind of feel.

Sequin dress, €49.95 at Zara

Hit refresh on florals. Ditsy or bold, graphic or abstract with petals clashing and jostling for attention… anything goes for summer  blooms.

Dress by Rixo London, €355 at Brown Thomas

The graphic alternative to florals, polka dots bring a different kind of whimsy. Play with scale and splashy colour to give the classsic pattern a fresh spin.

Dress by Self Portrait, €415 at Brown Thomas

For premium vibes with a high street tag, Kitri is the place to plunder. Simple cuts allow the sophisticated designs and playful brights to sing.
