The Must-Have Trousers For Now And Next Year

The trend many of us thought would crash and burn, but is in fact gaining legs if anything, is athleisure. The upside of a tricky trend that remains in vogue for several seasons is that it is slowly diluted down to the point where it becomes?palatable to consumers across the board.

That’s pretty much what’s happened here, to the point whereby all you need to do to demonstrate?that you’re “on it” is to buy a pair of trousers with a stripe down the side of either leg. Did you ever think athleisure would be that simple, or chic?

Here are a few ideas to inspire …

This tuxedo-style look is probably everything you thought athleisure wasn’t. What makes this two-piece so modern is the side stripe, which draws?on the idea of athleisure but reimagines it in a cocktail-wear guise.

Wool-crepe tapered pants, Haider Ackermann, €605 at net-a-porter.com and Havana

These trousers are top of’my wish list. They’re smart but they look so comfortable to wear and can be styled for evening wear (heels and a silk top) or for day with brogues or trainers.

Side stripe peg trousers, €42 at Topshop

Wide-leg trousers always look elegant, even when paired with a matching tracksuit top as per this Zara outfit. I probably wouldn’t wear both pieces together, but instead I’d pair the pants with a polo-neck and blazer. Heels or flats would work equally well.

Sports stripe trousers, €39.95 at Zara

Although these white trousers with blue side stripe have been styled in quite a summery way here, they would look so chic with a cream knit and trainers for winter. Winter white always looks expensive (and can be costly to maintain give the cost of dry cleaning!) so save this look for special occasions. A nice Christmas Day outfit maybe?

Silk-crepe trousers, Zeus + Dione, €178 (reduced from €445) at matchesfashion.com
