They already take the biscuit when it comes to our thrifty supermarket shop – where else do you get as tasty hummus for little more than a euro? – but will Lidl soon rule the roost when it comes to budget fashion buys? As they release a line for women in the UK next week, to be followed by a menswear range in November, this may not be quite the stretch for the imagination after all.
The only question that remains is whether or not their sartorial plans will reach this Emerald Isle, and more importantly, if we want it to. As IMAGE Fashion Editor Sive jests, ‘I’ll try anything from Lidl once.’ And we’ll be right behind her. Could there be more to Lidl’s lifestyle range than tents, wellies and ski-ing gear?
Truth be told, we’ve never been particularly taken with anything that Tesco have come across with, but we’re going to reserve judgement with Lidl, as they prepare to go head to head with Penneys and the likes. If these images are anything to go by, it won’t be half bad at all!
The range, which will be sold in store while stocks last, includes a €14.99 leather jacket, stretch jeans for €6.99, and shirts for €5.99.
The German retailer will also’sell jeans with regular and skinny cuts, while also offering ankle boots for €9.99 and casual shoes for €6.99.
As they continue their European domination, and ‘enter a new era’, Josie Stone, non food-buying manager says:?”This is the first time ever that we’ve done such a high-end fashion promotion and we’re hugely excited about launching these lines on 25th August.
“Not only are these jackets bang on trend for this season but they’re also €15 a pop, which is unbeatable value for such high quality. So we’d advise customers to be quick getting down to stores on 25th because they’re likely to be snapped up very quickly.”
What do you think? Will you be chomping at the bit ’til we inevitably get our hands on it in Ireland?
