Kathryn Thomas’ custom wedding gown is your SS20 bridal inspiration

Kathryn Thomas’ custom wedding gown is your SS20 bridal inspiration

We may be coming into autumn, but for those who need some wedding dress inspiration for their summer bridal preparations, Kathryn Thomas’ beautiful custom creation is just perfect

The presenter and fitness coach had picture-perfect nuptials at Kilkea Castle, County Kildare last month and recently shared photographs on her social media, giving a brief snapshot of the day, celebrated with husband Padraig, daughter Ellie and all their family and friends.

The setting looks spectacular, but it was the gown that caught our eye; a flowing, custom-made backless gown with a deep V, created by folds of ivory silk complete with an oversized bow at the small of her back.

The pockets in the front are an elegant touch, this is a dress that is both classic and contemporary. Created by Irish-based designer Umit Kutluk, the look was completed with a delicate white gold headpiece, designed by Laura Kinsella. You can see more of the gown in the Instagram shots below.

Katheryn wrote that “myself and Umit Kutluk went on quite the journey with this dress.” She explained she had been inspired by a photograph of a Chanel gown she had seen and wanted to create her own interpretation for her dress.

“Anytime I’m at a wedding, I love looking at the back of a bride’s dress. I’d seen this photograph, maybe four or five years ago, of a couture Chanel dress and it had that big sort of oversized bow,” she told RTÉ.

“I brought him the photograph and he said, you know I don’t think we can make that. It took a long time to get it right, but we got it. I loved it. I felt really comfortable and I felt really confident on the day.”

The result is a stunning creation worthy of any SS20 runway, and Kathryn, of course, looks incredibly beautiful.

The couple’s one-year-old daughter, Ellie, wore a bespoke Helen Cody dress for her duties as flower girl. “She came for 3 fittings and loved twirling around in it in the studio. She wanted me to write a little embroidered message to her parents, which we did along the hem of the dress, which was made of silk organza also embroidered with leaves,” wrote Cody on Instagram.
