I’m a bit over Zara, but these five pieces from the new drop are on my autumn shopping list

I’m a bit over Zara, but these five pieces from the new drop are on my autumn shopping list

Fashion director Marie Kelly used to be a committed Zara fan, but lately the gloss, for her, has worn off the high street stalwart. Nonetheless, she’s found five pieces from the first AW19 drop to fall in love with.

I’ve bought nothing in Zara this season. That’s probably a first for me and I can’t say why, other than every time I walk into a store I feel utterly uninspired. Maybe it’s the jumble sale chaos or perhaps it’s the sheer volume of clothes that I find off-putting. Certainly the fact that I can never get near a changing room doesn’t help.

But the brand’s stunning AW19 campaign shots (above) made me take a peak at the first AW19 drop. I wasn’t overwhelmed by it, but these five pieces I’ve really fallen for.

This semi-sheer pussy-bow blouse sums up the aesthetic for the coming season; demure but subtly sexy. I will layer a fine-knit polo-neck beneath it (Cos has some beautiful thin-knit polos coming in for autumn/winter) and I will also wear a sleeveless knit over it for a slightly 1970s feel.

Semi-sheer blouse, €29.95

Colour is a really important element of my wardrobe in both summer and winter. I love the idea of these fuchsia pink trousers in autumn paired with a rich burgundy or an earthy shade of camel. I’d probably wear them over a white boot to add a burst of freshness.

Flowing wide-leg trousers, €49.95

This top epitomises the appeal of athleisure. It’s totally comfortable, looks effortless and can be dressed up or down. I’d layer this over a polo-neck (as I do everything…) and pair it with a pleated skirt.

Satin pouch pocket jacket, €39.95

This sweater caught my eye straight away. It’s so textured and tactile, and I love the baby blanket shade of blue.

Flounce sweater, €29.95

On its own or as a co-ord, this skirt works beautifully. I love the utilitarian detailing in the form of a patch pocket.

Satin skirt with pocket, €29.95
