Tipperary-born Gemma A Williams is a freelance fashion curator and writer. Her book, Fashion China (Thames & Hudson), was launched during this year’s Shanghai Fashion Week to major acclaim. When she’s not busy collaborating on one of her upcoming projects, you’ll find her travelling the world, seeking out the best culture, fashion and food. She shares a few of her favourite things with us.
WEARING It’s really difficult to find a winter dress that works, but this oversized Maria gown in flocked winter lace from New York/Shanghai- based duo Babyghost is definitely on my list.
LOVING Pleats Please is my go-to store in London. It’s on Brook Street, is really small with perfectly minimal d?cor, but full of pleats. Whenever I’m in Shanghai, I always make sure to visit 10 Corso Como which has a great top floor gallery. To celebrate their 25th anniversary this year, they’re exhibiting Alexander McQueen: Working Process by Nick Waplington during Shanghai Fashion Week.
EATING London is such an amazing city for going out, but lots of the really cool bars are closing due to high rents. The Troubadour (below right) opened in 1954 as a coffee house and is still thriving. The Singapore Slings are amazing and the outdoor garden is really quirky.
LISTENING TO Georgia is a new musician I’ve discovered recently. Her interesting brand of electro pop sees her supporting Hot Chip during October, and I’m curious to see her live.
ART I love the Instagram world created by artist Clym Evernden (@clymdraws, left). He collaborates with Net-a-Porter and Charlotte Olympia and will be covering selected shows, behind the scenes and on the street, during Paris Fashion Week.
It’s great to see new fashion capitals emerging, and this October, I’ll be speaking and judging at Tbilisi Fashion Week. I’m looking forward to seeing what their designers have to offer as well as doing some sightseeing.
